I Need A Guide To A Diy Co2 Injection

I'm having a planted tank. And I need to inject my aquarium with co2, there are not Nitrates yet :(. So, I need a DIY Yeast guide that I can build.
 
When I made mine I used a plastic airline connectors - the straight blue type

You get a pack from most places which includes to straight connectors, 2 L shaped & 2 T shaped splitters.

In the UK P@H sell them for 99p a pack.

pushed it through the hole

Found a spare M6 sized nut and screwed it onto the inside until tight, the siliconed the outside.

Worked a treat.

T splitter you can get from your local lfs and the brass nipples, these are used for the fuel injection systems for model racing cars, boats, planes etc, any good modelling shop should stock them
 
So I'm going to go solo bottle with this one. No brass nipples or t splitters. Does it matter if I have a green 2 liter? That's all I have atm.

unlikely, as long as its not glass almost any bottle will be suitable, i use 2litre coke bottles and they work just fine
 
How often do you use them? I was planning on using one until the cycling is complete. And the CO2 doesn't harm the fish?

forever and ever and ever. theyre to make plants grow, take them off your plants will struggle. and yes co2 does harm fish but only in huge doses, doses total incapable of being reached by diy co2, so you have nothing to worry about :)
 
My dad is worried that I will smell bad. And I don't have any air stones atm. So what would you recommend I do?

And do the bottles expire?

yeah i can smell you from here :p
they dont smell at all, well not noticably at least, i didnt use an airstone on mine for about a week and even without i got pearling so theyre not strictly neccesary they just help get the co2 in the water a whole lot more by increasing the surface area thats incontact with the water, and yeah idealy they should be replaced evey 2-3 weeks depending on the yeast, i change mine every 2 weeks just to avoid a co2 drop, i could probably get away with another week or so but i think its better to stay ontop of maintanance.
 
Alright. I put it in. There seems to be some water in the hose from when I put it in. Will that block any co2 from escaping?

that shouldnt matter the water will remain until A) the mix has totaly cooled B) the pressure reaches the point where it will push the water out of the tube, this can take a little while though so dont worry it can take anything from 10mins to 24 hours
 
Alright. Well, I put the end of the hose underneath the gravel. I don't have an airstone yet. Anyway, I'm hoping the gravel will help the CO2 mix with the water.

you could build a reactor. I have run the air line from the co2 generators thru my filter pump outlet and into a old Lucozade bottle with the bottom cut off. add an old filter pad to the bottom to stop the micro bubbles escaping. this is a very efficient way to disperse the co2 as very little of it reaches the surface. most is dissolved into the water. you need to keep an eye on the bubble count so that it dosent fill up too much, but if this does happen a big co2 bubble will escape out of the bottom and rise.

If you look around the DIY section there are a few designs for them floating about.
