I have a breeding pair of bristlenoses in a 50 gal well planted tank, it have several pieces of wood, and i recently moved the pair from the trigon, because i added some pictus cats and worried they would eat any babys, since i moved them they had one lot of young and then stopped. I noticed yesterday, (cos i hardly see her) the female has gone rather pale with a couple of patches on here, the male and some of the older sibling are dark with spots and all look healthy.
I read up all that i could and have come to the conclusion she may be stressed, with due to lack of caves (there is a tiger plec is there too) bullying, or temp too low, so not sure what to do. ive added esha 2000 is case she has fungus (caused by stress) a little salt and turned up the temp it was 78, its now hovering around the 79+ mark and ill prob aim at around 80 to see if that helps her recover. I just want you advice as to what is causing her to get stressed the other plecs dont seem to suffer, i can move the tiger - will he be ok with plctus cats.?

medications should not be used unless you have a diagnosis!

I dont know if yours is the same case as mine, but when i do a cold water change to help spawning on, my plecs change colour and look patchy.

I think they change colour cos of the stress from temp change, i dont do that, i adjust the temperature to cause as little stress to the fish as possible.

"medications should not be used unless you have a diagnosis!" that is my diagnosis just wondered if other more experienced fishkeepers agree with it, and if not why and what they think it may be, or any ideas what may be causing the stress and how i can help eleviate it, di

Ive always done a cold water change on mine to simulate the rainy season, they change color all the time, mine seem fine.

If your really worried though, post a picture if possible and post it in the emergencies section and someone on diseases would be able to guide you better.

good luck.

thanks, are female generally paler than males though?

All my females are the same colour as the males.

I would agree, if you can post a pic it will help with ID'ing her problem, it may be stress. Is she eating OK? Has she lost any weight?

Hayley

ok ill find a pic of her not sure if you can see what i mean though

Looks ok to me

My too are darker when they are just relaxing, but it's when they start squabbling or after I turn the light on that they go pale and blotchy sometimes, I think it's just if they are a bit stressed. The move could have done this and she is still settling in.

Looks well and healthy to me, but are the markings your on about on the top of it? if so can you photo that?

She looks fine to me too :good:

My trio change colour regular, they have markings on top like a fiquire of 8 this normally comes more evident when they are in the mood for breeding not sure why it does but they are fine and have just layed me a nice large batch of eggs.
