Hi

Can anyone please help me identify what species this catfish is? I know the pictures aren't the best but it's a silvery colour with darker silver stripes down the side. It spends nearly all it's time in the log so I rarely see it and when I do it swims so darn fast that sometimes I wonder if I'm imagining the fish actually is in the tank! :)

I would love to know what it is so I can make sure it suits my other fish and also feed it correctly. I'm currently losing fish for no reason and my panchax has a mysterious 'chunk' out of it's abdomen so I'm not sure if this fish is the culprit as the deaths didnt start until this fish found it's way into my tank!!

thanks!

Here is a little tip, if a catfish has long whiskers they predatory.

Perhaps thats your answer.

But I'm not sure what species it is.

I got it about a fortnight ago and couldnt remember what was written on the tank by the time I got home! however I was assured by the aquarium that the fish was gentle, placid.. blah blah blah... I dont know why I even continue to ask as it's obvious they dont know.. or care.. i've yet to work it out!

Thanks for the advice - would still like to know exactly what it is!

cheers

Its a Mystus species, probably Mystus cavasius but at that size there are several species that look similar.

it looks like a juvi Pictus to me! no?

not the common pictus = Pimelodus pictus
but the 4lined pictus = Pimelodus blochii

but if it was out of the Mystus my vote would go to the Mystus cavasius
