Sores On Golden Ram

As you can see from the picture my Golden Ram has a problem. The sore at his dorsal fin is open and the lower spot is just a red spot but I'm sure that it is related to the upper one. Ant ideas about what it might be and how can I treat the problem. The problem started out like a rather large spot of ich on the dorsal fin so I was treating the problem as ich but I realize that it is more that ich. I have started with melafex after a 25% water change. This is a 30 gallon community tank. 3 Cory cats, 2 Bolivian rams, 3 Guppies, 6 Swords.

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
I would treat the red spots as bacterial.

I've got a very similar problem with a couple of my dwarf metallic rainbows. Well, one of them has died now, but the other is still on top form. The female had the sores for a couple of weeks and seemed otherwise fine. She did spend a day at the top of the tank looking quite bloated and lethargic and then died the next day while I was at work. The sores came up on the male the following day - one just by the dorsal and the other underneath. He races round the tank - which means I can't get a photo - appetite fine etc.

Tanks stats are fine and the other fish all look great. Do you think it's the same thing as Gnome's Ram? When you say treat it as bacterial, what does that mean? I've been keeping fish for years but never had anything more than a mild case of Ich to deal with. I'm worried now that it could spread to the rest of the tank

Gnome, sorry if I've hijacked. Your photo is better than anything I'm likely to get - I had a go but it was all a bit of a blur!! Hope your Ram is recovering

Your fish has a very bad bacterial infections and there mounting up so it get's harder to save the fish.
The red spots are bacterial, other signs of bacterial infection are looking pale and lethagic.
Is the fish scales sticking out with being bloated.

Thanks for that - is helpful to know what I'm dealing with. How should I treat it? I could take the affected fish out to another tank, but is it better to leave him be and treat the whole tank? I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know what kind of meds - I could go get some tomorrow morning.

If you have already lost one fish and another ill I would medicate the whole tank.
Uk anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Still going strong - great appetite for both food and chasing girls! Not looking any better though. Have resigned myself that he's unlikely to recover and that the treatment is as much for the others as anything. Should I dose the tank a second time? If so how long do I wait til I dose again? Thanks Wilder - you've been a real star!

Sadly are meds are not that strong so if its a bad case of bacterial infections the meds won't touch it.
You could do another round if you do a water change and run some black carbon for aday.
You can double dose on the internal bacteria med by interpet but I would only do that as a last resort.
