i just walked upstairs to have a look at my tank and behind the heater i found 1 of my danios dead with both eyes missing :(
has anyone got any idea how this might have happened? please post if you have found this or you know why.

in my tank i have:

2 dwarf gouramis (1 male, 1 female)

3 golden zebra danios (was 4)

2 shrimps

8 neon tetra

1 ghost glass catfish

1 female fighting fish

1 bristlenose catfish

thanks

Sounds like the fish died and the plecs sucked the eyes out.
How many gallons is the tank.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

soz dont no stats but ive had the danios for around 2 months now and they were all looking lively all day today and i went away and checked about 1 hour later and there was the danio with no eyes. so im a bit confused :/

the tank is 30L but im not sure what that is in gallons

I would check your water stats with a fish dying.
Not sure of the eyes were sucked out before or after death.
Any other symtoms to go on.
R.I.P.

also today one of my ghost glass catfish died quite quickly after eating, it looked like he choked on a pellet but could this maybe to do with the water aswell?

not been a good day to be honest

Did he die choking on the pellet, or after he released it.
Yes bad water quality can kill fish and cause desease.
I would invest in a liquid master kit ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
How often do you maintain the tank.

i do a 1/4 tank water change every week and i change the crystal in the filter every 3 weeks
i changed crystal today if that has any bearing

i think the glass cat may have died while choking as i have seen my other one choking before but then he spat it back out into the tank
he also looked a bit red around the mouth

Do yu vac the substrate.
Not sure what crystal is can you explain in more detail.

You need to vac the gravel to remove the waste from the substrate, and remove ornaments now and then to give it a good vac to get rid of the debris.
Bad pockets of bacteria can build up this way.
You need to go out and buy a gravel vac.
The link not working.

hmm i was thinking of taking a sample of my water to the local fish shop first thing in the morning to have that tested just incase.
i might pick up a vac there

thats a pic of the crystal. hope it works

Waste of money, you can keep water crystal clear with a good filter turn over and plenty of filter floss to remove fine particles from the water.

If your water not been crystal clear its because your substrate wants hoovering.

ok thanks for the help i think ill take my water into the shop tommoz to get it checked and get a gravel vac.
still a bit confused about the eyes though, unless my gourami had a nibble after it died

Plec and catfish are known for sucking fish eyes out.
Yes I would definately get your water tested, and also get the gravel vac.
You will eventually then save money on that crystal stuff not having to buy it.
Good luck.

thanks im thinking of purchasing a aqua one 620t in the near future and building it up for a few african chiclids.
this is the first tank ive had thats why its only small but the 620t is 130L which would be a nice upgrade
