Bubbles Keep Popping...

Okie dokie then...I'll shut off the filter and put Shiva back in...we'll see...they've been eating frozen (thawed, d'uh) blood worms and brine shrimp, as well as pellets and live bloodworms this week. I haven't had them long, but they came in excellent condition. As I've already said, Shiva looks about ready to pop!

Ah! Shiva's loosing her eggs, and Alpha's nest is still...small...

Is this okay?

She just had so many over-ripe eggs that never got to get fertilised by your male. When there are so many in her, as you said, she looked ready to pop, she will actually pop, and realease them all.

Now she will start fresh with new eggs, and these eggs will become ripe at view of the male. She will just have many fewer than she did before.

Though you should know that females eggs can not become fully ripe until she is tipped into the water with the male where she can experience his hormone. Then they will be ready to be fertilised.

Thanks! What do you think the reasoning could be for the small bubblenest? I've been shutting the lights off at night, but I thought he only needed the light left on once there were eggs in the nest...?

some boys jus don't make big nests as long as he has a couple he will be ok as he will produce more as he spits the eggs in there. Good luck with it, shame your not in the UK cos i want some babies

hey dont give up my first try for spwan went bad,, my female decided she didnt liek his nest and tore it up,, then she chased him around till i speperated themm, then my second spawn went well,, had lots of eggs and he ate them all....... try just putting a weak light near them at night ,, a soft night light>? and brighter stuff all day.. my guys dont like ther dark they tend to go to sleep,, lol lazy men

i found having more success by having no filter in the tank untill after they have spawned and the eggs have hatched and are free swimming.
