My friend, you have Caulerpa racemosa or grape caulerpa. It is an excellent macroalgae in a refugium but in the main tank will overgrow the LR with rhizomes and without trimming, can overgrow and block out light. Eventually, it WILL go sexual, releasing spores and fouling the water. This maybe prevented if you continually trim it back. Warning signs are that the plant begins to look pale or whitish. I'd pull it or at least keep it pruned. SH

I bought a small piece of this for my tank and within no time at all it had grown all over my live rock. It gets in to all the nooks and crannies so when you pull it it snaps so i found it quite difficult to get rid of. Mine went white to every now and again and it would break up and end up everywhere. It does have its benefits but really keep on top of it and watch for it going white.

o dear i dont like the sound of it spreading like mad......think ime gunna cut it out right away thanks for the quick reply on it.

yeah i would get rid of it. I regretted putting it in my tank. There are plenty of other types of caulerpa that are a bit easier to deal with. I have bought a few of ebay which my seahorses love

only problem is now its in my tank surely it will keep growing back in different places now that ive pulled it out as best i can will i not spread spores about the tank resulting in more of it growing??

I have some growing in my display tank, it's not too hard to manage as long as you give it a could chopping back once a week.

I wouldnt worry too much as by the picture its only a small amount you have got. You can see in the picture the long green bits are stretching out and these are the bits that will get a hold of the live rock etc. You can either keep it and just keep it away from rocks etc or if you want to get rid of it I would say now is the time.

I'm stricken with it as well... Just decided to start growing one day  must have come on a frag. I too trim it once per week.
