Rosie.jpgPertinent Question for the Day: Do male betta get stress stripes? I got what I think is a female from the LFS and she/he has stress stripes. The old female, Rosie, gives he/she a real run for its money.... but so far no nipped fins. They're gonna get seperated and get their allowances taken away too if they can't be nicer to each other in time.
Just curious..... Thanks in advance.....

Picture of Rosie enclosed

Males can show stress stripes but not as easily as females. In other words, they have to be reeeeally stressed. Your photo looks like a female though.

Thanks for your response! That's my old female, Rosie. I'll have to se if I can get a shot of the new one. I can't make up my mind on its gender. It's getting along with the other new female... ..so....???

I have only ever had one male with stress stripes and that was a pk. I have a girl who thinks she is a male, flares, very stroppy, even tries to do nests. But, she has a fat tummy and short fins, no obvious white dot, and her "frill" when she flares doesn't go underneath her chin. :good:

I'll have to get a photo.. At any rate he/she is getting moved into her/his own box .. It's a bit too frisky and picking fights..
Thanks for your response liz2. Good to see you're still on here! :good:

My wife gives me stress stripes!! They're called grey hairs

I think the males only ever show on their cheeks, though I saw very stressed VT male in LFS the other day fulled striped up :(
