They are a numbering system that's used to accurately label certain fish. I don't know where they came from, Germany rings a bell though. The idea being that sometimes fish don't have a scientific name when they are first described or it gets changed as more is learnt about them but the number stays constant. Also common names (eg golden nugget, starlight, pitbull) can be incorrect or just made up on the spot (well it looks kind of like a zebra... let's call it a zebra plec) and can therefore be really unreliable.Can anyone explain to me the L numbers? I have not seen them in any of my info books, only on this site. I know I have a lot to learn. Help please
