5teady- if theres a lid on the tank the temp of the water will keep the temp of the air on the surface the same, the trick is when condensation builds up you know that its right, or (i do it this way) wrap cling film arond the top of the tank this works really well and still allows air to slip in to provide oxygen for betta when they take their first breath.
