Fat Platy

I currently have 3 sunburst wag platies in my community tank. Two of them are doing fine and completely normal. One of them is getting very very fat and round. She (we know it's a girl) is always the first to eat and the last to stop eating.

Should we try to isolate her during feeding, or would that be too much stress? Could there be something else wrong??

We do have a male in the tank, but would pregnancy cause these eating habits??

Its not unusal for a pregnant fish to be eating well, if she looks healthy and is eating well then thats nothing to worry about.. if your concerned about her being fat, post a picutre of her and we can take a look to see if its maybe bloated or just infact heavily pregnant

Also i will be roughly able to tell you whenshe will drop (not 100% accurate obviously, but a near enough idea)

A pic would be great.

If i had to have a guess on how long it will be to drop, i would say within the week.

I didnt mean the back of fish sorry my mistake, i meant the back of her belly, near anal fin...

Definitly overfed, but also very pregnant m8, keep a eye on her, she may drop her fry within the next week.

Watch for her...

Dwelling near plants, or bottom of tank, or even at top..

She may hover near a internal filter or powerhead (if you have either)

May hover near heater..

She may hide away from other fish and be very wary of venturing round the tank..

A breeding trap would come in handy if you have 1.. if she gets any bigger or even in a couple of days, try her in the trap for a night.. no longer though.

I always say 2 days max, but just try one for now.. you dont want to stress her out..

Thanks for the help! This is our first batch of fry so we're quite excited but also unprepared!

With that established what should we do about the typical American obesity?

I fear that the cherry barbs we have aren't getting enough food because she gobbles it all up. Is there a stress free way to isolate her during feeding or to distract her?

Dont worry, all the fish will get thier food, there will be much that goes to the bottom that they will find, if your that concerned about it, put the food at one end of the tank, when the female goes to it, just put more at the other side, and do same at the back...

Dont put loads in though, just make sure you spread it out, but honest, dont worry, they all will be getting food
