What was once a dark gravid spot has turned into something else more complicated. This female has been like this for a couple days now. She still seems to be acting normally. Not sure how long it will be when she'll give birth.

Them little dots you can see in the gravid spot is the babies eyes, awwww cute...

I think she will drop within the week :) she may not have loads though as she look young.

Personally she look like she's age's away, it dose look like eye's yes but they don't look very developed and the body is still quite slim. I'll give her 2 week's plus.

well lets haggle, 1-2 weeks

With her looking fairly young and not very big, i dont think she is 2 weeks+ away, but it will be intresting to see when she drops, keep us posted on it :)

From this view she looks bigger though...

this video of mine the platty is very small and she is a lot bigger in the belly than yours..

But sometimes you cant go by that.

here is the vid if you want to see how her belly will end up looking before she drops..

Birth of fry - note belly size

How ever i for to say you got some great photo's there, what camera do u have?

Bowed front of the tank blurs the image. Otherwise the images would be a lot sharper. The sword tails don't sit still very long so photographing them is a challenge.

Currently using Canon EOS 10D SLR camera with various Canon lenses on monopod at 1600 ISO setting at f/2.8 and f/4.5. I sorta wish I had a macro lens to get more detail.

I think I'll take pictures of the female until she starts to bear fries and post them in here.

Thats be great i was looking at the canon 400D (40D would be better but to much money), but due to repairs to the car I've had to get a cheep camera for the mean time.

yes i'd say a little more time then she will be ready. 5eady i have a platy that is larger than the one in your video droping the fry, i guess i should drop her in the breeder now HAAHHAHA. she is so fat it's cute, i'll post some pics if i can in a new thread :D got another female whom is pregnant thank god i got 2 breeders :D

gonna be a daddy of million fry i guess :D

Sometime between 4am to 7 am this morning, she had given birth. I saw 1 fry in the community tank. Don't know how many were born. The other Swordtails had a voracious appetite this morning so I assume it wasn't a large number.

I was unable to net the single fry as it swims fairly fast. I'm hoping the fry can stay hidden among the many plants in the aquarium.

The mother is still pregnant although I can't see any dark dots.

My nursery tank is still a few days away from being properly cycled. I'll attempt to catch the remaining fry if it survives the rest of the week.

I had to go to work this morning but I'll try to take pictures tonight.

Darn surviving fry is extremely difficult to net. It is extremely quick.

It is staying put among the live plants. It looks like it's just barely big enough to not fit into another fish's mouth. I'll try to take pics tonight.

Congrats m8 :)

Seems my first guess was pretty good on when they will be born ;)

Seems helter was way off

The little fry is fast but not clever enough to avoid a net and has been moved to another tank.

He/she is seems to be happy and is regularly doing laps around the tank. He/she is eating fry food as well. :)
