I have a 20G high that currently has 7 harlequin rasboras. I will probably be adding a small school of cory cats as well. I thought I'd round out the tank with a couple of male guppies. I know they're not schooling fish, but some sites recommend keeping 3-5 to keep them happy, while others say nothing about this. Also, one site I saw said you can't keep just male guppies, but I thought it was pretty common to do so in order to avoid fry.

Anyway, would it be okay to keep just 3 males?

Yes that would be fine, you can probably put more than that in if you wanted.

Thanks for the response!

I might, but I just haven't quite figured out the stocking levels and all yet, and it seems best to only put a few in at a time to see how everything is working out. I'd love to get a small school of small tetras, too, but I think that'd push me into overstocked. Stupid 20G is so limiting, but there isn't really room for a larger tank in the house right now. :(

What is the dimensions of your tank?

24x12x16

Depending on the size of your other fish bare in mind....

You can put around 20-24 fish in that in total (obviously not all at once) but to be on the safe side, i would only put 15-20 in it.

Like i said, it varys in the size of fish, the bigger the fish, the less you stock in the tank

:)

Thanks. I've been stocking slowly, checking my ammonia/nitrites/nitrates regularly and just generally researching the heck out of every possible fish. It's nice to know where I can (hopefully) end up, though.

Here i did this for you, (these are not 100% to go by on stocking amounts, but are a good guide for the other things :).)

If you have the space, I'd put a few more than just 3 in - five or six maybe - as that way any aggression will be spread around the group. I've only ever had problems with fighting males in small groups - bigger groups seem a lot happier just to show off their tails rather than biting chunks out of them.
