It is heart warming that finally after 8 months, of agonising over a number of issues, I have a 24g nano with its vibrant blue shimmer illuminating my room. I set up the tank yesterday and warmed the water over night to 25C (77F) and added the salt today. Once I got the s.g to 1.021 uniformly over the tank I went to my LFS and asked about adding live rock. I know that a lot of people like to wait a few days after adding the salt but according to the guy I spoke to you can add straight away. So I did 10.4kg to be precise and I am really happy with the progress. As this is my first attempt at marine I have posted some pictures so that I can get your opinions about rock placement, water flow and possible problems with regards space for corals. If there are any other nuggets of information or ideas please let me know. Tomorrow I am going to collect my Hydor Koralia nano just for a little more flow.

Regards

Just thoughts:
-any reason why the rock is piled against the back wall?....no flo thru..there is a lot of dead area back there
-do you have enough room to clean the glass where the rock approaches the side?

Hey welcome,
One piece of constructive criticsm make sure the rock structure is solid and wont topple over. Especially when you eventually add your corals. It's best if you keep it off the walls of the aquarium if possible for reasons steelhealr has implied.
I upped my temp to around 79'F and the SG to 1.026.
As for other nuggets then trawl through other members nano journals for a whole myriad of ideas and inspiration.
I wish you all the sucess in the comming weeks/months.

I piled them against the back to give some extra support. I wish to have certain corals which need high light and lots of flow but the rock is insufficient to get close to the top where the light is highest. Unfortunately funds are also insufficient at present to allow more rock to be bought. I thought about flow through the back would be fine since my hydor koralia nano is going to be working down in that area (where the opening is). The cleaning is fine plenty of room to scrape the algae and clean the glass.
With regards the conformation of the rock would a triangular based pyramid kinda shape be better?? Many thanks for the ideas and comments much appreciated.

Regards :good:
