Well, if you plan on keeping ich-prone fish, UV might be a good idea. And if you plan on keeping sensetive soft corals, skimmers area good idea...

Hi, Got both, the problem is the after just adding the UV the skimmer has gone crazy and keeps oveflowing the cup.. I guess its because the uv is killing the bacteria and being skimmed out. Hope it settles down soon

Finally got my tank alive, hopefully everything will be ok over the next week

Got more live rock and a new skimmer (mce600), as berlin air pump was a waste of too much effort. Missing the flared bit so getting loads of bubbles in the tank!!!

Got my first fish 30hrs ago (yellow tang) and seems happy but a bit timid -> Bubbles

That sounds like its what is happening, is your six line still going strong?

These were the fish I wanted last week, but had to get the yellow tank as they were just new in.

Will give them a month or so before adding anymore.

Man I hope there going to be ok

way to go lostjock.... good luck

how is the mce 600????

my sixline is doing fine. hope to get some more fish this weekend. looking out for clowns again.

Thx Jetbox

Glad to see ur sixline is doing well.

MCE is much better than berlin airflow, although still needs a bit of playing with around once per day to keep optimum foam. Sometimes is overflows and sometimes it underflows, which I assume is due to evapouration. The old skimmer needed the airflow adjusting about every couple of hrs.

Those blue LED lights I got from ebay are excellent, although probably do nothing for coral. They are very easy to fit and give a nice blue light.

Hi lostjock...

looks good. what livestock do you have now???

I am away at the moment so can not take photos but added three chromis last week. Also have two cleaner shrimps..

Hi Jetbox

Good news about the chromis, I will be soo jealous if they are blue. Let's have some pics when you get time

The only livestock I have, are mainly those in the pictures...
- 2 x black clowns
- 1 x yellow tang
- 1 x emperor angel
- 1 x cleaner shrimp
- 3 x turbo snails
- 4 x hermit crabs
(lost only a few hermits / snails along the way, due to being clumsy)

Just plumbed in a DD 75 RO unit, as a nightmare getting RO water here. Not a good move as my wifes dad had to fix my leaky plumbing

Everything been going great until the other day when I noticed the angelfish had whitespot. Started to add (rightly / wrongly) Pimafix 7day treatment. Read the instructions and added the correct amount to the sump, a few minutes later the sump was like a washing machine gone crazy, full of foam. Eventually found a small note on the back of the glued on label (like a plastic bottle of coke) that says TURN OFF Skimmer! This should so be on the FRONT in big letters, for idiots like me

A few days on and everything is still alive and only the angelfish appears to have whitespot, which doesn't seem to be getting worse

I hope it makes it as it is so cool, it was eating from my hand after a few days :<

Here is the sponge that seems to be taking over at the moment. about the size of half a football now. growing out of the water too. Not sure what i should do with it???

Nice fish Jetbox

Thats some mad growth, but at least its life :good:

Had another nightmare, my rocks became unstable as something been eating them and (after working on a Saturday night) I had to re-scape the rocks with the fish / inverts in :hyper:

Is the hair algea pretty normal? My rocks looking pretty bear, although keep getting a few nice polyps sprouting here and there. Starting to get some green coraline through the layers of diatoms. All water conditions are good and consistent.

Lets know how you get on with sponge bob!

Sponge still growing..... starting to restrict flow around the weir so need to take action soon....

I think the green hair algae is not unusual but it doesnt look great. Was thinking of an algae blenny to try to control it.

I have a small amount of phosphate in the tank (can't remember the figure at the mo) which i want to reduce to hopefully slow the algae growth.

So I made a phosphate reactor at the weekend and am really pleased with it. I bought a clear acrylic pasta jar and along with some pvc pipe now having a functional reactor. It looks like it is working well with the rowaphos simmering away nicely. I will check the Po4 level tonight and see how its doing...

Still searching for some new clown fish too but none available in my area at the moment

Kill Sponge Bob!!!

Why did you make a phosphate reactor? I added rowaphos and within a few weks my phosphate levels were 0 (although it does make a bit of a mess which ends up in the sump)
