can anyone tell me which type of tortoise this is?
i got it 2 days ago, it was a little girls (who was far to young to look after it)
i have took it to give it a good home. from looking on the net i can say which i think it is but i was hoping someone might be able to say for sure.

it is 10 months old. about 5 1/2" long and and 4" wide.
was in a 12"x24" fish tank :-( with a heater and UV lamp
yesterday i put him/her on to a 2' x 3' tortoise table with UV lamp heater and heat mat. with a view to getting a 4' vivarium

here is a pic

Awwww hes so sweet!!!

I would change the bedding to sand/bed-a-beast mixture, add a little dirt. If he doesnt have something abrasive, the thick scales on his feet won't wear down.

found a breeder in my home town, only took 2 hours and 20 phone calls :) took 'Rocket' last night. she said he is Testudo graeca ibera the greek spur-thigh and is most likely a he.
she said a product called repti turf is very good for a substrate.

anyone have any other ideas? or experiance with this?

THIS IS WHAT HE ''''''WAS'''''' LIVING IN :-(

i dont know what "repti-turf' is, but if it's those green flat mats for the bottom of the tank, that's no good! do your research online for geeks.

Reptiturf by eurorep is a compacted dry grass pellet substrate, It's good safe stuff although it does have a bit of an organic smell to it! Not too bad though and certainly not enough to put you off if it's the best thing for your pet ;)
