They all change to deep colours when not in a breeding trap.
I,ve got them in a tank of their own.
One is deep blue with long red pelvic fins
One is deep maroon all over
and
the other is deep blue all over.
They all flare their gills from time to time
but the blue and red finned one is the most aggressive and the dominant fish.

They were sold to me as females, are they juvinille males of the short finned ( true fighting fish from Thailand ) ?????

Really need a better photo of them, up close and able to see their fins properly. Also, please try not to put them in a breeding trap like that as if you'll notice the black horizontal lines - they are a sign of stress, and those three appear to be extremely stressed in that position.

Only juveniles or females will stripe horizontally up like that and it is a sign of distress.

Better photos are required of each individual fish, plus you should be loooking for the following (usually a rule of thumb of mine) -

males
longer ventrals
a frill near the gill area when they are being aggressive (this is called a beard and is a dark colour)

females
white ovipositor on the underside of their tummies
shorter ventrals
vertical stripes when they are presented to a male and are ready to breed

Females will distend their gill plates but don't have the dark frill (beard) and can be just as aggressive as males so that is no indicator.

I have opposite problem with my girl she had the 15 gallon to herself!!!
and she had her stripes,
i put her in her breeding trap while i clean the gravel and she seems alot more happy.. she show her real colour

Depends on the fish, if they have only recently come out of a tank where she had no real room to swim then their comfort zone is a small tank, this will change as they develop their confidence but in some cases they do prefer a smaller tank to a large one.

Lots of thai breeders never let their fish have a large tank but keep them in small containers, then the fish are sold to shops and once again they only know small containers, then you buy them and suddenly they have a large tank and lots of space

Think about you if you suddenly had to move to a country like say Canada with all that wide open space when you are used to living in a small village, bit disconcerting don't you think :good:

Thanks guys,
Hope these photo's give you experts a better view to help tell me what I have.

THE AGGRESSIVE BLUE AND RED
always flaring it's gills and extending it's fins to maximises it's size.
bullies both of the other two.

SSCN1840.JPG
THE QUIET MAROON
occasional gill flaring but wants to be left alone.

SSCN1839.JPG
THE SHY ALL BLUE
just hides when the gill flaring starts.

As you can see they have settled down and now are revealing their colours,
my long fin mature male seems smitten by the SHY BLUE fish ???
He is in the main tank and continually approaches SHY BLUE's trap
and flares himself but not in an aggresive manner, more like he's showing off.

WHAT ARE THESE THREE MALES OR FEMALES ??????????

Just from what mine where, I'd guess that the top one was a male and the other two females...? I'm prob wrong though as I'm new to all this!

Wow, looks like you've got a nice PK male from that top pic!

I'd definitely say the first one was a male, and the other 2 are females.

Top is defo male, nice boy too. The bottom is defo girl. The middle i would say is a girl too but i'm not 100% on that

I'd say the same...
#1 is male, #2 & #3 are female
His ventral & anal fins are longer than the other two which is a good indicator that he's a boy.
