nice tank, you say your using aqua-pro filters,i have the aqua pro on my setup, runs really good, only prob i have is there aint any instructions with it,so i was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice please.
are the inlet and outlet taps detachable,as when i clean my filter i turn the taps off then unclip the lid,but then water overspills.was just wondering if there is any way that you can move the entire filter base and lid complete to the sink,

The inlet and outlet taps are removeable completely,

You must first turn off both taps, the power and then remove the air trap plug. The reason for closing the taps before removing the power is so that you do not lose the syphon on the inlet pipe.

Then unscrew the bottom of the taps to remove the pipework.

When you have cleaned the filter material, replace both hoses into appropriate connections and do not replace air trap plug.

OPEN the INLET tap and watch the water level come up the side of the filter, as it reaches the top of the AIR TRAP turn the INLET tap OFF.

Replace air trap plug with tea towel underneath filter to make sure none spills on carpet, turn the power on and open OUTLET tap and then the INLET. Expect some air to be trapped inside filter but it will work its way out.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the help, but there is no air trap plug on mine but other than that they are more or less identical,i have a priming button instead of an air trap plug.

Oh, you have the SP (Self Priming) version, dont worry about the air trap in that case. You should still be able to remove them in the same fashion.

Well the tank is still cloudy, its looking more like a bacterial bloom but its just dust still. The floss is working wonders though but i still think its going to need a few days to clear properly.

Chris

Done that twice already. Its clearing, slowly but it is. The water changes really helped :)

Chris

just found this thread chris, thats gona be an awsome tank when finished
regards Angel

Thanks, its been something I have been wanting to do for ages. I am off later to get the hardscape. Hopefully I can get some good size pieces of bogwood.

How old were your discus when you took the photos angel?

Chris

I wanted to clear the sand and gravel in the tank, a little unorthodox but i couldnt justify wasting the water to wash it all properly. The tank has finally cleared but I have a slight bacterial bloom. I went to my LFS today to choose the hardscape but I could not find anything I like so, all the stuff was far to expensive for its size too.

Oh well, I will be hunting around a few other shops to see if they have anything. I did reserve 60 neons though.

I have also put the black background in, just plain acrylic coated sheet.

Chris

Indeed but there is bugger all in the way of nice things in my garden. Grass and fences, pretty much it.

Chris

Well the water has almost cleared :D. I have put some plants into it from the 60 but am going to do it slowly as i know as soon as i have the plants looking right i will find a perfect piece of bogwood that will look perfect but the entirety of the plants will have to be moved, lol.

I will pop a picture on later when fiancee gets home with camera.

Also have run the water tests to ensure that the filter has been doing its job

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <5

There is also a small shoal of neons in there to add a little bit of waste to the tank so the filter can still eat.
