looks like a tiger lotus to me, take a try to searching the forum or do a google search :)

Its not a Tiger Lotus, although it is often labelled that.

It is Nymphea Rubra whereas the Tiger Lotus is Nymphea Zenkeri

The way you can tell this is the bulb which looks like a 2cm piece of wood.
The Zenkeri (Tiger Lotus) bulb is more traditional like a tulip bulb and only about 1cm.

Bottom left of this pic is a bag containing 2 Rubra Bulbs and the centre of the pic are the Zenkeri bulbs (middle row, 3rd from left)

The leaves on the Zenkeri would also show flick of darker colour even at the lower level they are, although they don't always conform to rule and the Rubra can sometimes have flicks dependent on the light.

thanks for the help,is there anyway to take cuttings of this plant so as to put it in other areas of my aquarium?

i think ive found the answer to my own question,as for taking cuttings.SuperColey1 had already posted some info about this plant for another member of this site,so if ive got this right,i remove a leaf with its stem, plant it and it will reproduce?

No you gently remove the whole plant.

Look closely at the bulb and all the stems will be coming out of 1 hole in the bulb (or sometimes 2 or more holes)

Each is a seperate plant.

The roots and leaves will come away from the bulb leaving a gaping hole in the bulb where the plant was. The bulb should regrow a new plant.

The plant you seperated, cut the roots to about 1 inch long and replant.

i gently lifted the bulb,as i did i noticed that one of the plants had already rooted itself into the substrate,
so i cut off the root attaching it to bulb and replanted the bulb in another part of the aquarium.
SuperColey1 your a star, thanks for all your help

Thats what happens with the Rubra.

The Bulb is just the mother and the plant the baby if you like and once the bulb produces a plant it roots itself and then the bulb can reused.

Never thought of doing it your way round. I may try that next time rather than move the plant. lol
