Hi, I'm a newbie and this is my first tropical tank. It's about 3 months old. 5 Yellowtail Rasboras, 3 Male Guppies, 2 German Blue Rams, 2 Ancistrus, 1 Red Wagtail Platy and 1 Amano Shrimp. I've got some new plants arriving soon, hopefully they'll add a bit of height and fill up the upper layer.Let me know what you think. Cheers, AndyPic 1: before the fish, I don't have the airstone on anymore but it's still a possibilty.Pic 2: how the tank sits in the living room, it's inside a wardrobe that has the door removed.Pic 3: my two young Ancistrus.Pic 4: the tank as it is today.Pic 5: my two rams.

:hi: Good tank, but a little word of warning though. That rock (last picture)may be composed of Calcium, which will leak into the water, and raise Ph. Unless you have very soft water, I would take it out.

If you would like to test it, take it out, and drop a little vinegar on it. If the vinegar bubbles, it means it has Calcium in it, and isn't suited for the tank.

hay andypalf. WOW!! what a site. that is a great looking peice you have there. good stuff. keep it up and im sure we all cant wait for the next project to come along. take a bow.,

Cheers guys, I'll test the rock when I've got 5 min. I bought it from my LFS and it was listed as OCEANIC ROCK. A friend who has lots of experience keeping tropical fish recommended it to me, is he wrong to?

Thanks for the words of encouragment. I'll put more pics (hopefully slightly better ones) when I get the new plants in and everything is settled.

Thanks again

From what I understand "oceanic" means salt water. In a salt water tank it wouldn't be a problem, but it isn't good for fresh water.

those rams look happy

that's what I thought! I thought I'd done well and got them to pair, but it wasn't to be. Sadly, I just found one dead. I don't know why though, hence why I've just posted a thread about it

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw it, try dropping vinegar onto it and if it fizzes then its no good

Well I thought it's been a long time since I've put any photos up and it seems we all like a good tank journal here! And for those reading this thread for the first time I did test the rock and it's fine. Since the original photos both of the rams died sadly. I've put it down to my water being too hard. All the amano shrimp have disappeared...not even any bodies
The only new addition is the Pearl Gourami who's been in the tank for about three weeks. Enjoy.

and a few more...

Cheers. I've been trying to get hold of a Banded Gourami for ages now. But it proved too hard and when I saw that guy he was stunning and I had to have him. He's been great so far and I think he's really settling in now.
