Fish Crazy
Hi,
One of my female guppies is not as active as she usually is, she stays away from the main group and is hanging around at the bottom of the tank hiding under the filter. She sometimes comes out to say hello with the other guppies when i come to the tank as usual so she's not completely sedate.
She also has a white-almost clear stringy poo constantly hanging out of her anus.
I have just fed my fish some frozen blood worm and soon after eating it most of the female guppies began pooing red poo like the blood worm wasn't being digested (is this normal?)
Tank size: 20 uk gallons (this takes into consideration all the gravel plants and how much the tank is filled) I do a 20% water change and non intensive gravel vac one a week.
I do not know my parameters as I do not have a kit but my lfs is close.
tank temp: 24 degrees celcius
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: When I got my fish I also started using Seachem Flourish excel (Organic Carbon for the planted aquarium) because my plants weren't doing as well as I would like. This product seems to be working my plants are growing very well and appear less glassy than before.
Tank inhabitants:
1 male swordtail,
1 female (heavily preganat) swordtail,
1 female platy,
4 female guppies (one is pregnant)
1 male guppy (maybe 2 though, one of the females I bought has suddenly developed male features - the additional anal fin (I don't remember what it is called)
1 male dwarf Gourami
1 female dwarf gourami
1 juvenile guppy (looks to be about 6 months)
1 Guppy fry (about 2months old) We're taking the survival of the fittest approach to bringing up fry.
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): There are no recent additions to the tank, all the fish except the male swordtail were added about 2 and a half months ago and all plants and rocks etc were existing.
Exposure to chemicals: My tank had an almost complete wipe out about 5 months ago because the lfs gave me the worng medication for a persistant case of white spot. I was left with 1 male blue gourami ( which I gave to the lfs when I got my dwarf gouramis) and my existing male swordtail. After my stock was near enough wiped out I treated the tank with a carbon filter and then let the tank run for about 2 months to stabalise a little. I went to my lfs and checked my water parameters which were fine, I then added gradually the above fish.
From reading other posts I think that my female guppy may be internal parasites, could I be correct? The other fish do not seem to have this white-almost clear stringy poo, Like I said before it is either brown or after feeding the bloodworms red in colour.
I feed my fish a varied diet, frozen bloodworms once a week, and either aquarian flake food or peas/cucumber/zucchini once a day for the other 6 days.
Any suggestions as to what be affecting my guppies?
thanks
