Hi,

One of my female guppies is not as active as she usually is, she stays away from the main group and is hanging around at the bottom of the tank hiding under the filter. She sometimes comes out to say hello with the other guppies when i come to the tank as usual so she's not completely sedate.

She also has a white-almost clear stringy poo constantly hanging out of her anus.

I have just fed my fish some frozen blood worm and soon after eating it most of the female guppies began pooing red poo like the blood worm wasn't being digested (is this normal?)

Tank size: 20 uk gallons (this takes into consideration all the gravel plants and how much the tank is filled) I do a 20% water change and non intensive gravel vac one a week.
I do not know my parameters as I do not have a kit but my lfs is close.
tank temp: 24 degrees celcius

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: When I got my fish I also started using Seachem Flourish excel (Organic Carbon for the planted aquarium) because my plants weren't doing as well as I would like. This product seems to be working my plants are growing very well and appear less glassy than before.

Tank inhabitants:
1 male swordtail,
1 female (heavily preganat) swordtail,
1 female platy,
4 female guppies (one is pregnant)
1 male guppy (maybe 2 though, one of the females I bought has suddenly developed male features - the additional anal fin (I don't remember what it is called)
1 male dwarf Gourami
1 female dwarf gourami
1 juvenile guppy (looks to be about 6 months)
1 Guppy fry (about 2months old) We're taking the survival of the fittest approach to bringing up fry.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): There are no recent additions to the tank, all the fish except the male swordtail were added about 2 and a half months ago and all plants and rocks etc were existing.

Exposure to chemicals: My tank had an almost complete wipe out about 5 months ago because the lfs gave me the worng medication for a persistant case of white spot. I was left with 1 male blue gourami ( which I gave to the lfs when I got my dwarf gouramis) and my existing male swordtail. After my stock was near enough wiped out I treated the tank with a carbon filter and then let the tank run for about 2 months to stabalise a little. I went to my lfs and checked my water parameters which were fine, I then added gradually the above fish.

From reading other posts I think that my female guppy may be internal parasites, could I be correct? The other fish do not seem to have this white-almost clear stringy poo, Like I said before it is either brown or after feeding the bloodworms red in colour.

I feed my fish a varied diet, frozen bloodworms once a week, and either aquarian flake food or peas/cucumber/zucchini once a day for the other 6 days.

Any suggestions as to what be affecting my guppies?

thanks

:)

Long stringy white poo bacterial, parasite, to constipation.
Any fish bloated up or gone thin.
Check the gills over to see if they look pale with excess mucas or red and inflamed.
Get water tested and them them to write the readings down for you.

The female guppy looks fine size wise, she was fat with fry last week and has recently given birth so she's got her figure back. The other fish all look normal, and all their gills look fine.

I gave her some peas last night to see if it would help, she doesn't have the stringy poo hanging out of her today. Gonna keep an eye on her and see if I get a chance to go to the lfs today and get my water tested.

I think it might just be constipation. Here's hoping!!!

Ok good luck.

UPDATE

-My female guppy is not doing very well at all, she's lethargic and can't swim very well, and very very thin. She hasn't eaten in three days. I don't think she'll survive the night. My main concern is figuring out what is affecting her so that the other fish in my tank don't get what she has.

-One of my male guppies is not acting normally at all either, he's usually very active always chasing his girls, but today I have noticed that all he does is sit on top of the filter. He did come out to eat today though.

-If you read through my first post you will see that I was concerned that my female may have had internal parasites, I have noticed recently that some of the other female guppies also on occasion pooed white stringy poo, but because this only happened sporadically I thought it may have been constipation as they are all fat with fry and very active.

-I've included a picture of my very sick female guppy that may help with the diagnosis.
-The information given in my first post still remains true, I shall go to my lfs tomorrow and get my water tested as they are closed now and maybe invest in a testing kit as I seem to be needed it quite often nowadays :(

-Oh I did a 20% water change and i increased aeration in the tank today.

Any advice much appreciated :)

Guppys are prone to internal parasites like camallanous worms best to worm them.
Just taken flubenol of the market in the uk so there isnt a wormer.
You could try on ebay to see if you can get it.

does he have any white dots on his fins or body? could be ick!
