Bless him that is very bad looks like a very bad flesh eating bacteria.
What are your water stats.
What country are you from.

hi

hubby did water stats and everything was fine (dont know what he got but it was all fine)did have to do a big water change yesterday though using water from another tank(thought it may be better for him seeing as he is in a bad way) as there was allready medication in as we thought it was something else initially and couldnt combine the two treatments.I am in the uk aswell

You need to issolate the fish and get going with an antibiotic like tetracycline but to be honest if looks bad and the fish is not eating.
In the united states can also buy medicated food, but only use one or the other not both.
Must increase aeration in the tank with meds.

Sorry you replyed before my post,
Uk bad news you need an antibiotic.
I doubt the anti internal bacteria med will do much on the fish as it bad.
Only thing I could suggest is getting in touch with a vet.
If not melafix, if you can issolate the fish double dose of the anti internal bacteria med, you can double dose but not advised only in really bad situations.

Thats good then if he's in issolation.
Only can get antibiotics in this country from a vet.
For now double dose on the bacteria med but if he's weak it could finish him off.
Increase aeration in the tank, add some melafix, so he being treated internally and externally.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Does he flick and rub could have a parasite that causing the bacterial infection.

to be honest i cant say i have spotted him go to the loo and he isnt flicking about either.
Ive never seen in all the time ive had fish something come on so fast he was fine not even 48 hrs ago

Thats fine then if he's not flicking and rubbing.
When you don't see them go to the toilet it can be organ failure.
To be honest he's in very bad shape and its not looking to good.
I would definately add another full dose of the med to whats already in.
Good luck.

On the main tank do some daily water changes.

Thanks phoned our local vet and they said take pics and go and see them at 3 so will wait and see i have put another dose in the tank too.
do you think that others in the community tank he was in have the problem or not and just arnt showing symptoms and could it possibly be that he may be a old fish

How old is he.
Bacteria infections can spread to others that's why it's best just to preform a few water changes in the next couple, of days just to be on the safe side on the mian tank.

Good luck with the vets, can you keep us all updated on his progress.

Hello again

Bad news im afraid i didnt even get to the vets he died at about 2.30pm
But on the lighter side of things, ive just looked in my big community tank( the one i had to transfer all my other fish to to isolate him as he was too big for the normal isolation tank) and there are babies lots of them i knew one of the platys was pregnant but thought she may have had a bit longer to go.So i hope they manage to live there are a lot of hiding places.

Thanks for all the help Wilder

from a bit more cheered up Hev

Sorry bless him R.I.P.
