We have water in the tank!!

I wont bore everyone with pictures of the tank filling but by 10pm tonight it should be full and i'll post some more pictures up of the filtration working.

live web feed :) :D

lol, i can only just work out how to post pictures let alone anything that fancy and technical

Great news, how long do you expect for it to get to the correct temp?

Should take a couple of days to come up to room temperature and then i'll add a couple of 400w heaters to the sump to raise it to 26c until i'm ready to move the heater from the old fishroom to the new one, i still have limited electrics until a mate comes around and wires up all the sockets so i can move all the tanks over.

have you informed your local water authority that you're going to be empyting your local resevoir this evening ?? :shifty:

That is a large pump. I like the background too.

Your making more progress than my 40 gallon tank and this is 900 gallons!

wow spoton :good:
nowt else to say really im gob smacked
you allways get one dont yeah lol ure tanks ace
:good:

CFC i thought you were planning to do different layers of height on the rear of the tank to provide differing water depths and plateaus etc? Is this still the plan and how are you planning to do it when the tank is full?

Also I don't suppose you are within 2 hours of me so i can come and do a nosey and lend a hand? :hyper: sob (checks location)

I take it you're going to go for a 'quick dip' yourself to test it out, just so you know you have?

We have water and after what seemed like endless hours of tweeking valves for the flow rates the tank is running smoothly and the heaters are in, suprisingly it only took 4 and a half hours to fill! I'm hoping to have the sand and fish in sometime this weekend.

I decided to scrap that plan as it was brought to my attention that having a glass shelf at mid level in the tank was a potential hazard should any of the fish get boisterous and slam themselves into it, i get occasional injuries from fish banging into moveable objects in the tank so a fixed thin edge could cause serious harm.

Anyway here are some pictures of the tank running.

The canister filled with media, this is working exactly as i wanted and should provide huge ammounts of biological and mechanical filtration

The media trays which are a partial wet dry, the top tray is clear of the water level and the returns from the tank splash over this again providing masses of biological filtration

Ah thats a shame, i was really looking forward to seeing a tank with different levels for different fish.

I think its still viable to do just in a different way. Possibly building a plateau from perspex

/---|

with a slope and a flat ledge, running from one end to the other? (the flat should be rite at the top of the slope)

Or have you completely gone of the idea ?

Here are the two returns from the pump, the flow rate coming through these is immense, i struggled to stem the flow with my hand when i did a test to see how much pressure they were creating

return_1.jpg

this second return has outlets at the surface and near to the substrate so the tank doesnt get any dead spots

return_2.jpg

and here is a couple of the tank full of water, sorry for the quality the temporary lighting i have rigged up is very poor

I still like the idea but the tank is full and running now so i dont think i want to drain it down and start again, i may use the idea on a smaller scale in one of my other tanks at some stage.

Its getting there :)

the exciting day will be putting the first fish in the tank and watching them explore their new "ocean"
