I have 2 bettas

1. Crown tail in a 5 gallon tank(Marine land eclipse corner tank) with a ghost shrimp as a buddy.
2. Veil tail in a 2 gallon brandy bowl(not sure if it is 2 gallon though).

I have fake plants with a big bamboo ornament and a cave. I think I have too much stuff in there. Do you guys think it's too much for the betta to swim?

Any thoughts?

Those are betta than my tanks! LOL! They seem to be good for a Betta.

Yeah. I feed them brine shrimp and hikari pellets.

The yellow veil tail don't eat pellets anymore. So, I feed the guy brine shrimp at night. Red one is a pig. It takes 5-10 pellets in the morning and gobbles all brine shrimp(frozen) at night. Ghost shrimp tries to steal some, but it always flares and chases the shrimp away. Shrimp will get only scraps. :shifty:

I'd be worried about your betta jumping out of the 'bowl' one. Especially since its filled right to the top. But then again, you wouldn't want it filled any less since its not very big to begin with. Can you make a lid out of something?

Also, I hope you have a warm house, I notice you don't have heaters...

He should be fine. None of my tanks have lids, non have filter, then again I live in the middle of a desert. lol

The bowl is not full. It still have 1-2 inch left. I tried to cover the bowl with the chinese takeout plastic plate, but it looked ugly, so it went to the trash. Betta is not jumpy, but the ghost shrimp certainly jumps. For some reason, the crown tail betta always rests on the thermometer or the snail shell ornament.

Yeah! winter is approaching. I need to get one for my 5 gallon tank. Considering to get this one.

Is this reliable? Outside it is 55 F, but inside my house the clock shows 77F and thermometer in the betta tank is at 81F. Not sure about the bowl temp.

Well, I would not reccomend petstore ones. When I had Oscars my heater from petco would over power and burn wholes through my clothes and table when I cleaned the tank! So, that one seems good:) haha, it never gets under 60 F out here. It is real nice in the 70-75 F in the winter.

My god, did you not turn it off when you were cleaning the tank???? Not to mention you shouldnt remove them from the water when they are on - the change in temperature can cause them to crack. I turn mine off a good 10-15 minutes so they cool down before I start cleaning.
1) It's an electrical safety hazard to have them on when you're working in the tank, you can shock yourself, I forgot and I got a mild shock once
2) so they don't get damaged - you could break the thermostat - either the heater won't work at all, or your heater may get stuck on and cook your poor fish.

The things you say worry me FBTgirl.

P.S. OP, there's probably nothing wrong with petstore ones, I'm sure many people on this forum use them. As long as you use them correctly of course...

I suppose the 2 gal would be alright. Is it cycled? Personally I would not keep a betta in anything under 5 gallons, just because they seem to get really bored. Unless you have time to chase him around with a skewer every other day to keep him fit and healthy.
It also depends on the personality of the betta itself, I hear that some prefer smaller living space because they feel more secure.
Also, are the 'cages' lit? Bettas can get pretty depressed with no light. Just a tip.

By the way, you can't fit most heaters in little bowls like that. You know that bettas are tropical fish so they require temperatures around 75 farenheit to be happy and healthy.

the hydor mini, little credit card type heater would probably be fine for the brandy glass tank, but you should be aware that they don't have an adjustable thermostat they just raise the temp by a few degrees. so make sure the room isn't too cold. for the 5 gal i would personally get a more traditional heater with an adjustable thermostat. in my 3.5 gal tank i have a hydor theo (300w as i couldn't find the little 50w one! ) i have it set a little low as its overpowered, but it keeps the tank at a steady 81c

Wow nice tank 'ya got there, he's livin' like a king, LOL! :p

& that bowl looks pretty too, but I'd fill it more & then get a lid of some sort.
Bettas are prone to jumping!
