I was wondering whether I have the filter outlet best placed in my tank. I have a high tech planted 60L 60x30x35cm with a Eheim Ecco 2232.

Currently the filter outlet is on the side pointing across the length of the tank with the inlet on the same side. But this seems to create a dead spot below the outlet.

Should I move the outlet to the back pointing towards the front of the tank? Any thoughts?

Jake.

i guess in theory you would put the two pipes as far away as you could, from each other. the Eheim instructions, i have seen, seem to bare this out. placing the inlet diagonally opposite, the outlet. however this is both awkward and often ugly, as one pipe will be on show all the time. mine is set up the same way as yours, though i have a directional nozzle allowing me to direct the flow, within reason.

I'm using one of these but it creates a dead spot directly below. I may try pointing it towards the front of the tank.

is there any advantage in using a spraybar?

well the spray bar is often used to control tank currents, though it is also used to help with O2 absorption. i have my outlet pointed directly at the back of the tank, sort of the opposite to your idea. i do this so the filtered water moves over the heater. it did however seem to bring more fish into the area around the outlet. i guess the best thing to do is give all the the options you have a try and see how thing work out. as with so much in our hobby, suck it and see, often seems the best way.

I use a variety of methods, one of which is a glass lily pipe at the same side of the tank as the filter inlet. Personally, I find this method preferable to most others, and is very popular in planted tanks, from what I have seen.

The key, as you know, is to get the nutrients to all four corners of the tank, so if you do have a dead spot, your plants or algae will let you know.

I've just started using my spray bar again. Its in 2 sections so what I've done is had one section angled down pushing water down the back of the tank, and the other forwards. I'm hoping to create a bit of a current down near the substrate to allow my bamboo shrimps that I got the other day to feed more naturally (fan feeders).
