Ive just setup 2 of these and have found the ladder just clogs up with white gunge at the bottom.

I think you've over filled your canisters in that case. White gunge is the mix escaping and probably isn't that good for your fish. Re-do your mix with a little less water and you should be ok. Also worth using a bubble counter to stop any gunk getting into the tank, as it'll go into the bubble counter instead

The mixture isnt entering the tank as all the pipework is clear also the lids are clean. It seems to be a milky substance collecting on the bottom rung of the ladder. I have to clean the ladder every 2 days or so.
