Hey guys!I got my tank today, so I thought I would start a journal! It is a 66 USG (someone correct me if i'm wrong) tank measurements in inches are: 48 (ish) long, 18 tall (not including the black frame at top) and about 13 inches wide. Inhabitants will be:5 Discus1 Angelfish1 German Blue RamThe tank came with a heater, full canopy, two filters and a fish net. The stand was really big so I didn't get it. all together it cost me 200 CND (190 USD, 140 EURO.)

First photo, is a full tank shot. You can see a 10g behind it, so it kind of gives you a size reference. (sorry for the small pictures)

Next is some equipment. This is the heater I got. It is 150 Watts, i'm not sure if thats sufficient I may pick up another to run with it.

Next photo is one of the filters. It looks really old, and I will have to update it sooner then later. It's an Eheim.

Next is the other filter. Its an Aqua Clear 70. This itself could run the tank, but of course over filtering is better.

Next, is just the canopy, with the filters. Thats it for now. Sorry for the really small pictures i'll fix that for the next patch.

Yep. I feel in love with them. I remember I was on a site and I saw a picture of one. First I thought they where marine. I did a little research and found out they where actually freshwater. I think thats the reason why I love them so much. For some reason i'm just very attracted to freshwater fish. Anyways, I have been waiting it out for like 2 years now, so hopefully I can do this.

Just re measured my tank, and it's actually a 55 gallon. I'm not sure if I did it right, but before I didn't count the top frame piece (black edgings) in the height, with it it's actually 20 inches high, either way stocking stays the same...

A 55 gal is 48 inch x 18 inch x 15 inch just so you know :) ...You could always construct a sump. Then you could get all the fish you wanted B)

A sump would be a good idea. Also once your gravel, filter, fish and plants/decor go in it will be less than 55G anyway.

Tbh I don't think anyone counts in decor, however with discus people keep them in bare bottom tanks msot the time...Hmm..

Yep, it will be a bare-bottom. Why would a sump change anything? It is more the case of aggression, nothing but space can help that... Right?

With both filters, it's filtering an 120 gallon tank...

The extra water volume would help, but as you point out these are cichlids and the tank volume will remain the same so you will have problems with aggression.

Running two filters provides an extra safety net, but does not mean you can stock it as a 120 and will not replace regular water changes, think you already know this but just to be sure...

I'd stick with a bare bottom discus only tank with a tank of that foot print.

Yep, I knew, don't worry.

I am going to do more then once per week water changes anyway, and of course it will be a bare bottom species only.

a 55 gallon tank is not 15 inches wide. If it were I wouldn't be buying a 75 gallon tank for my SW excursion. I needed the extra 5 inches.

The 55 is 13 inches wide. 13 1/2" at most.
