Hi
I've recently been treating an outbreak of blue-green algae with a blackout. Seems to have worked a little, but now 2 of my neons are unwell. One has completely lost its tail and the other has a large white patch on its flank - seems to be under the skin. pictures below sho the problem. I've dosed with melafix and primafix. What is it - how do I treat it?
All help graetfully recieved
Thanks
Shaun

Fishkies posted the link to it:
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/neondisease.htm

"As the disease progresses, affected muscle tissue begins to turn white, generally starting within the color band and areas along the spine.

Caused by the sporozoan, Pleistophora hyphessobryconis, the disease is known for its rapid and high mortality rate among neons. To date there is no known cure, the only 'treatment' being the immediate removal of diseased fish to preserve the remaining fish.
The disease cycle begins when parasitic spores enter the fish after it consumes infected material, such as the bodies of dead fish, or live food such as tubifex, which may serve as intermediate hosts.

Treatment:
None, separate or euthanize diseased fish

There is no known cure. To ensure all fish are not lost, remove diseased fish from the tank. Some species, such as Angelfish, may live for quite some time. However, they should be separated from uninfected fish to avoid spreading the disease."

Ok, I've separated the 2 affected neons. The tank also has other neons and garnet tetras - how long do you think before I know if the disease has settled down?
Thanks
Shaun
