He's a lovely baby. He looks scared and lonely. :look: -_- :(

I know poor guy. Hes in with the rest of the corys now and there all getting along just fine. I had to float him and get him use to the water in my tank before I could throw him in.

awww hes such a cute little guy, i love him.. i want him...

Is he with other pandas? These are the next fish on my list! I just love them How much did he cost by you? They are pretty expensive in my LFS. Oh and does he do a good job of filtering through the sand (if you have sand?)

Not yet, hes with two peppered corys. They had so many that Im going back to get 2 or 3 more. They were only 5 dollers at one of my lfs. The other one carrys them but there so hugh and there 8 bucks there. I wanted to start with babies. I dont have sand just small peppels. They all seem to get in there pretty good.

my panda didnt make it. It might have been the stress I dont know. I took him and a water sample to my lfs. They dont test with the strips but with the liquid drops. He said my water was just fine. I know it was cause I had just done a water change and tested it myself the day before I got him. So he replaced him and Im keeping my fingers crossed that this one makes it. I think Im going to have to get another panda. Hes not interacting with my peppered ones and vice a versa.

Poor little panda :rip:

A great many local pet and fish stores sell Asian fish farm pandas--think puppy mills with hormones added to the mix to induce rapid breeding. Those pandas are not very hardy and are very sensitive.

In addition, lps pandas and peppers are not a great mix. Lps pandas need a very quiet tank w/o a lot of activity by bigger fish. Peppers are bigger and very active food seekers, so they will run over anything smaller. Pandas from the lps are best kept in a large group by themselves or with a qiuet non aggressive mid or top swimmer. If this one has trouble and you really want the pandas, I recommend a quarentine tank and get a big group (like 10) to keep until they get more mature.

Not all lps pandas are Asian puppy mill sourced, a local breeder may occasionally sell his fry to the store, but not often as there is a good market for them such as ebay or Aquabid.

hix why only one baby...hihi get more pandas to him ;;)

So both of the baby pandas I had have died. I dont understand it. I know my water is fine as I have checked it and the lfs. Everyone else is perfect. They seemed fine the first two days and one the third day both times I woke up and they were dead.

Sorry for your loss.

As Jollysue said, they are normally very fragile and sensitive from overbreeding and all the hormones they add at these breeding farms. I've heard of others having trouble with pandas from LFS's dying within days of purchasing them.

When we got ours, we visited the LFS a few times, and watched to see if they looked healthy, if there were lots of dying or dead pandas in the tanks. We generally waited 2-3 weeks of the LFS getting them in before purchasing any.

I know they can be popular and you want to get some before they're sold out, but it's best to be sure you're getting a good specimen, rather than waste your money.

Good luck and hope you find some healthy pandas soon.
