Hi Everyone,

I am totally new at having fish and I feel like an idiot. From reading this I believe my three female fish are pregnant, but I am not sure. I have a female mickey, a female golden platty and a silver guppy. I think there spots are dark, but I am just not sure. I think the silver guppy is going to be having her fry very soon, she is barely swimming around and staying at the bottom in the plants. My question is the males will not leave her alone and are constantly chasing her, is this bad for her? My kids really want me to try and save the babies, can anyone give me a heads up on what the best thing to do is?

Thank you so much,
Confused

It could be pregnant if it stays in the bottom of the tank or its sick. But from the pic u posted it looks pregnant that normal. Does it eat when u feed it? What size of tank? What do u have with it in the tank?

I know nothing about livebearers or breeding but she does look extremely bloated....
Are any of her scales sticking up or pineconing at all? Its hard to tell from the pic.

This is a 'just in case' post so ignore me if they aren't.

I have a 40 gallon tank with Molly's, Guppy, Plattys, 1 neon tetra and 3 black skirts. Yes, she comes to the top and eats as soon as I drop in the food. I was trying for a better picture. Here is another one.

This is my mickey and the platty that I believe are possibly pregnant too.

Thanks everyone for the help. I took the pics to the pet store and they confirmed all 3 are pregnant. I bought a 3 way breeder box and a breeder net to keep the babies in. Anyway, I hope I can keep them alive. I will try my best

Based on the pictures, even if you miss a few fry, they look like they have a few hiding places and will survive in the tank.
Thanks for the information, do you know how to tell how soon they will deliver? The pet store said I need to put them into the net or breeder box at least 72 hours prior to delivery. I have no idea on how to tell how pregnant they are.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tammy

That female black Guppy looks pretty pregnant to me. I would say within the next couple days. I would put her in it now. The rest, within a week I would say.
Thank you so much, I just put her in the breeder box and I will put the Minnie and Platty in it by next week.

Putting the guppy in the breeder box can stress her. She may not have all of her babies now but can actually delay birth or only have a few. The first time I had baby guppies she only had 4 fry after I put her in a breeder. this was 2 months ago. Yesterday, the same guppies had more than 30 fry by using my current method. I don't used breeder boxes for guppies (but do for the mollies) because of this. Instead I use floating plants to offer cover for the fry (hornwort). Right now I have 3 adult guppies and about 60 fry + 3 baby balloon mollies in a different tank. You can certainly catch the fry and put them in the breeder trap after she has them. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Yes. I use the same method as Jen. My guppies were expecting, and when I put them in the breeder box. I didn't get any. They were far too stressed. But when I left her in the tank. I got some. Although many were eaten. If you have good aquatic plants and driftwood, rochs etc... for hiding places you should not have too much of a problem.

I remember you said you have 1 neon tetra? They are schooling fish and must be kept in groups of at least 5. Do you have any room left in your tank?

I felt like an dumb dumb  too when I started on this forum. My first question was embarrassing! Because lotz of people said I had many problems. Don't worry you will get really good at this in no time.

Good luck with the fry! I'm sure you'll do well.:) :good: What do you plan to do with all the fry? lol

We originally had 5 neon's, but the Black Skirts killed 4 of them and now I only have 1 left. Yes, we do have room in the tank for more, just have not gotten any yet. I am not sure yet what to do with the babies. The pet store said that I can donate them to Petco, so we may do that.

I did take her out of the breeder box and she seems to be doing better now. We are still waiting for the fry to be born, but nothing so far.

Thanks for everyones help and I will keep you posted,

your guppy looks very pregnant i would say if you have a small tank i would put her in it but i wouldn't recommend breed box to much stress i do this so there isn't to much stress and then after she has them you can put her back in the main tank and move them to the breeding bow and put your other 2 fish in the little tank you can get one at petco wlamart or any lfs and not spend to much on one and it will work as the delivery and nursery so to speak

Hi Everyone, Well she still has not had any babies. I took her out of the breeder trap, but the male will not leave her alone. So, I now have her in her own little 5 gal tank. Do you know based on the pictures below when I should expect fry? fish_007.JPGThanks,
