My BN has been with me ~1 month and has grown loads! :good:

But yesterday I noticed a kind of near white crystally appearance on the edge of his fins two 'top' (nearest his head) fins. This is a small line only on the extreme outer edge and quite hard to see unless you look closely but is definitely there! No other signs of anything 'wrong'.

Is this normal growing or something you I need to put in the emergency section? All stats and other fish are fine, BN is still acting as usual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm guessing its a male and its the "fur" or spikes developing...

I'll try and find a good example picture

does this help?

Thanks for the reply smithrc, I hope this works... It has! This is not all over its body but as per the first post it was on the fin edges and now as you can see its onto the head, no sign of anything on the other fishes (I have clown loaches). Unfortunately my QT tank has some new rainbows in, any advice?

Here's another angle...

Looking at this one it looks pretty much like the sand substrate... I have some pictures of one of our zebs with this same "problem"

In our case it literally is the sand sticking in amongst their spiny areas... hopefully that exactly the same in your case...

Here you go - not the worst I've seen - but it shows at the sides of his face

I really hope so too. :-( Only problem with that is the fact the stuff has stuck for such a long time must be about 2 weeks now since i first posted and it appears to have 'spread', was this the case with you?

Thanks for the pic. Certainly looks similar if it stuck there for a while. Lovely fish too...

It certainly looks like sand to me.
