No. Gibbys are Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps and commons Liposarcus mulitradiatus. Gibbys can get to 40cm, but 30 is more likely. A 5x2x2 foot tank will be needed for an adult.

it looks like youve got a common sailfin pelcostomus catfish their fins make up most of their size alot more expensive than the common

No they are not, they are usually cheaper and easier to get hold of than Commons, indeed, I have never seen a young Common in a shop.
Common sailfins plecostomous catfish are Gibbys as stated before, and although their fins are indeed large, they do not make up most of the fish; they would be big even without with sailfins.

were i come from (australia) they are the most expensive fish in the shop and all the sailfin pelcos in my LFS have small bodys and massive fins and i was approving in your decision in species. the common pelcos in my area are much cheaper than salfin pelcos

In the UK you will be lookinjg at maybe £2-3 for a common plec, this covers three species, two of which have been mentioned and another which always seems to escape me, lol.

Gibby are nice plecs but can attain 2' or more in length, they do have huge dorsal fins, which are normally 2-3x the height of the fishes body.

I nice alternative to the gibby is the L001, grows to around 10" and is the same familt as the gibby, although the pattern is different, gibbies are gold with brown/black markings and L001's are black with gold markings.

In Aus most fish are extremely expensive, due to the distant the fish travel, a polypterus senegalus costs between £10 - £20 depending on size (normally) in the UK, but they cost from what I've read around AUS$1,200

Just one reason I've been put off moving to New Zealand lol

where abouts in australia are you? im in bris n they are one of the cheapest! bout the same price as a common, then chocolate, gold spot and finaly the clown ( from least expensive to most, of the breeds commonly available).

NSW is were i live they only get gibbys around the size of 4" to 10" and there also banned in some places (around the murray river) they cost around $40 to $150 it may seem cheap for you but not for me  in order from cheapest to most expensive they cost:
bristle nose pelco
common pelco
sailfin pelco
gold nugget pelco

they are banned everywhere in oz... go to plecofanatics.com plenty of smugglers/breeders there

are you sure? they are very common with in the local pet shops, i will ask the guy i know he will know for sure. of course here the bristlenose are cheapest.
Bristlenose - $6 to $16
Common plecos - $16 to $30
Albino bristlenose - $20
Orange spot Bristlenose - $20
Peppermint bristlenose - $20 - $40 ( have actually seen these guys once for $16)
Gibbys- $20 to $40
Gold spot pleco - $25 to $35
Chocolate - $25 to $35, tho if my lfs can get them in cheap he can sell them for bout $10 ( he knows alot of breeders and gets alot or rarer catfish ( rare for here) cheap, like the striped raphael i got mine for $35, usually they are $60 to $300, and the angelicas catfish bout $400, tho have never seen these anywhere else).
and clown pleco - $60 to $90
o and occasionaly the long fined bristlenose variety and also the marbled bristlenose, usualy for about $60.

these are the most common available here, did once see a scarlet pleco but they was asking nearly $900 for him, and another place had a sign up for a zebra pleco for $90, i never saw it but i am pretty sure it would have been a clown.

lol, i have the same problem youve got. i didnt know what type of pleco i had (my brother and mom got him while i was gone) and then i found out that it was a sailfin pleco and luckily studz told me of his eventual size so i am working on getting him back to the store or finding a bigger home.

oh fun
