Isn't it a bit crowded with two ADF's and a betta in a 5 gal?
IMO its not a problem. :good:

I didn't say it was a problem

It just seems a bit much for a 5 gal, that's all :)

Also, JUST mho...I would use regular aquarium plants instead of crab decorations. That way they actually have something to hide behind/in :)

Hi! Thanks for asking. My lfs folks gave me the idea for the frogs, and several of their customers also had added dwarf frogs with their betta's. Puff Daddy (the gold CT) has always lived with 2 ADF's, and they get along great. Before the move to a 5 gallon, they were in a 2, and they were very happy.

Bluey, on the other hand, was in the 40g, so he's taking a bit of time getting used to his surroundings. He also seems to get along with the frogs, who spend most of their time in the caves, or the pool.

The funny thing is, whenever I put a plant in their tanks both betta's stay clear of them. Bluey even waited until I was watching, then purposely brushed against the plants and then swam away FAST, like they were hurting him. Puff Daddy saw this and did the same thing, now neither of them will go near any plant material, live or plastic. They do seem to enjoy sitting on top of the palm trees, though. And Puff Daddy and the frogs take turns in the hammock, I've included a pic from the old tank.

A question: Since most people keep bettas in a 1 or 2 gallon container, why would 5 plus 2 adf's be too small? the adf's are no bigger than my thumb nail...

Thanks!
Kori

How many ADF's you have and what kind of decor you use is up to you :)

I was just making a suggestion. My personal opinion is a 5 gal is too small for a betta and two ADF's...but that's just me

Yes, the ADF's are tiny now, but they will get larger. I think they get about an inch and a half when fully grown (which isn't huge or anything, just larger than what they are now).

If they are able to live together without problems, then that's fine and dandy :)

Those make great little Tanks.

I personally think 5 gallons for a betta and 2 ADFs is fine. I have 1 ADF with a betta in a 5 gallon and have been wanting to get one more ADF for that tank as well. The decorations seem fine, too. In fact, I really like that hammock. Might have to check them out when I go shopping again. I have an empty jug that had animal crackers in it that I plan to use for a betta "tank"! :shifty:

There are so many cool decorations in the frog-crab-turtle aisle that it's amazing! The thing is, watch for sharp spots and trim them up. The palm trees had to be scraped at the edges to get the plastic mold line off. Other than that, it will open up a whole new way of decorating!

I personally used to have a betta and three ADFs in a two gallon. They all were very happy and healthy until I moved into an un-air conditioned house where all my fish ended up cooking over the summer.

I have one of my boys in a 2 gallon now, I'm starting to think about getting him a couple of ADFs... and seeing that cute hammock I might see about getting one of those. That is increadably cute!!! And I know how ADFs like to play and stuff in the decorations. My old ones used to always peek their heads out of the holes of the cave and stuf... so cute.

But anyway, back on topic, right now I have my bettas all in either normal tanks (ranging from 1-2 gallons) or critter keepers (ranging from 1.5 to 1.75 gallons). I also used to keep some bettas in one gallon rubbermaid containers with a hole cut in the top to feed and so they could get air. But as I've gotten the money to buy more critter keepers I've replaced the rubbermaids with those. Hopefully some day I'll be able to have all lit, heated, and filtered tanks. But until then, the fish I have now are happy and healthy and that's all that matters. :)

Well I have the 1 gallon drum bowls from walmart they are about 5 dollars, they don't take up much room and they look nice. I also havea divided 10 gallon and some 1.5 and 2.5 gallon marina bowls.

hia i love his idea, how would you heat/filter these cheeseball tanks, and are the water params difficult to keep steady being so small??( i heard the smaller the harder)
i have 1 of these beautiful bettas in a 4ft tank, with a couple of other fish at the moment.but this is a great way to keep more
is it very hard work??

My betta lives in a 3 gal jug that we buy from sam's club it holds cheese balls which is a extra bonus  !
