I just looked into one of my tanks and saw the betta laying on top of the filter I nearly died I thought he'd snuffed it! The filter had slipped under the water and he was laying on it. I got the fish net out and tried to catch him thinking he was dead and he swam away! Went to do something else came back and he was there again so took a quick pic, sorry its not very good quality just took it on my phone you can sort of tell hes laying on the filter.

They do it on purpose Zoe! My yellow one used to do exactly the same thing, frightened the life out of me!

I really nearly had a heart attack!! Although i was pleased to see hes made a few small nests thats his first since i brought him home 2 weeks ago

:hyper: :hyper: bad boy! Mine sometimes sit on bottom motionless...peer at them..nothing....start taking lid off in a panic...and they sort of wake up and say..whats the matter is there an emergency! :shout:

My Tatsu did that one time.It scared me until I saw the little guy's gills pumping away. :X
I tapped the filter one time and he hasn't done it since.

Man it scares me when my fish do that too... Oh how they love to torment us some times..

I think it's because they know that if they do that, we'll come to their rescue.Give credit where credit is due, bettas are genius con-artists!

EDIT: And if anyone gets my signature,PM me!

I have a Platy in my community tank who likes to sleep by floating around the top of the tank. She will actually let you poke her a couple times before she does anything, and sometimes she'll sleep on her side. She's just plain out cruel . I know she is healthy though because I have had her for almost three months and other than early in the morning she's just as busy popping out babies (Dang them and storing sperm >.<) and begging for food than the rest of them :)

Oh our bettas will be the death of us heh.
I wanted to take some pics of my bettas a few hours ago.

Well I took some of Afia. And was looking around for my boy Raj and he was nowhere! I about died thinking that he somehow jumped the divider or jumped out (even though both would be impossible). I was looking all around his side and I finally found him.
He was sleeping like a log next to his balls...

hehe

I swear I don't think I even sleep as heavy as he does. I turned the light on, I tapped on the glass, I opened the hood up a few times (gets them excited b/c they think it's time to eat) and nada (this was when I was trying to find him)... he didn't move from that spot :p

I got 2 OAPs in a split tank..one of them is really old and only comes up for air and food. Every morning I think he will be gone the one on the other side has decided he will build a little bubble nest. He is so excited...really tatty looking he got through the divider months ago and had a scrap with a boy next door and has never really recovered his fins.
