Is This Ancistrus Sp. L309?

Can anyone help me identify this little guy? I think it might be Ancistrus sp. L309, but I'm not sure. Also any ideas how big he might get?

Is it OK to keep a few of them or are they happier on their own? I read up on him but couldn't find any info along those lines. My tank is 3ft, 35g, with lots of plants and driftwood, and it's way understocked at the moment as it's only 2 months old.

You can keep a few in your tank provided it stays under stocked. These guys don't do so well with multiple males though as they can fight for dominance. You will see which ones are males as they mature and get bristles. The reason I said under stocked is because they poo quite a lot for a relatively small fish. Have a look into diet for them as they will not be happy with algae alone. I feed mine Algae wafers, and lots of vegetables like peas, beans, zucchini, etc. The plants and drift wood is great. They love to hide so having a spot under the wood is perfect for them. They also like to eat a tiny bit of the wood.

Thanks for the tips, dylema. I've got 3 of 'em so I'll keep an eye on them as they mature. I've got a friend I can give one to if there's a problem.
I've fed them some algae wafers but didn't know about the fresh vegies, will try it out.
They really are great little fish!

Yeah I like them a lot too. I have three types, Normal sp3, albino sp3 and peppermints (starlight). well two types as albinos and brown ones are the same.

It might be an idea to hang on to get any more than this one until your tank is a little older, as all plecs need a mature tank

Give it a couple of months before you up the numbers, then you have more chance of success - I've found baby BNs to not be as hardy as they're made out to be - and they definitely prefer a healthy mature tank to a brand new one
