I thimk I'm going to have to put down one of my fish in the morning, :-( and I need to know the best way to do it. I haven't had to do it before.
He's been ill for a while, but twice when I treated the tank with eSHa 2000, he really seemed to improve. I was worried about treating all of the fishes, so i moved him into a small tank on his own a few days ago, but since then, he's really gone down hill, and lying on the bottom. I'm at work now for the night, but I have to put him out of his misery in the morning.
Please don't suggest decapitation, I really don't think i could do that. The guy in the lfs suggested putting him in a bag of water in the freezer but that's been disagreed with on this forum.
Fish is a male guppy, adult.
Thanx for any advice.

I find the best way is to mix some clove oil in a small container with water and shake well.Make sure the fish is in another smallish container and slowly add the mix of clove oil and water.

I am sorry, it really sucks to have to "put down" one of your fish. I have had to do it a few times, and personally I don't like putting them in salt or other chemicals, liquids, etc. To me it seems they don't die fast enough, and if they have already been suffering I want them to have a nice quick death. It is hard to do, but what I do is cut their heads off with a sharp knife. It is difficult but you can rest assured the fish is dying very very quickly with this method. I know you said not to suggest it but I can't think of anything quicker or painless. Or you could even have a less sensitive person do it if you can't. Good luck and sorry again.

A bucket of cold water and loads of ice the colder the better then place the fish in there, about thirty seconds it will take.
Sorry.

Sounds horrible but when I have had no other option I scoop out in a small net and 1 hard flick to the head does it. 1-2 more just to make sure  Please don't hate me everyone

I place mine in a cup and stick them in the freezer. I heard this way they just go to sleep and don't wake up. That's just what I have heard.

Thanx everyone.
I used a bucket of icy water, it only took abt 10 seconds.
