Is "she" A He?....

bought this one as afemale, but i picked it out as i suspect that it is a male. hes quite large, certaily larger than any of the females he was in with, but he looks alot more muscular, his ventral fins are longer, hes far more colourful and has a well doveloped tail. there was a big red VT in the ajaicent tank flaring him but he just stred at him without flaring back.

wot do you think? big girl or short finned male?

i think what u have there is a male his fins almost look like my male fins and it could be a she?
 
ya it looks like one he looks pretty young too
 
see my betta is on my avater if u can look closer into it , it will look like the same fins so i do think it could be a male.

and here is my other picture it is small and was in the dark.
 
i think that he young by the fins i guess like the posing pic though
 
Looks like a male to me, but two ways to be sure would be to A ) wait and see if "she" gets fat with eggs and the ovipositor shows up or B ) *not as helpul* put a mirror up to the side of the tank and see if "she" flares. Not exact science, but could give you an idea.

kinda cant realy see much in that pic. and..er.. your avitar dont look much like a betta to me :look:
 
oh yeah and u know the last picture u did blue_betta well it looks like hes in a modeling show hes looking very pretty! B) <----like this cool dude! i love pretending every single twirl hes making hes like a model then i start laughing.
see ill show u both these pictures in big size!

gave him a good feed of bloodworms when he arrived so we shall see if he fattens out into a female, no egg spot on him just now tho while even the smallest skinniest females in the tank all had egg spots.
 
flaring wont tell you if its male or female females flare as well. It looks like a young male, no egg spot almost always means female.

Red - Males tend to have much longer ventrals than females

Green - Males have an extra layer of skin on there gill making it possible for them to make the big flare face, lol. When females flare their girls will flare out but that BIG extra layer that frames the face won't be there.

Blue - Males have long pointed anal fins.

thanks for all the comments. i showed him a mirror once he had settles and he flared MAJORLY!!! i had to temporarily put my male VT in the tank (the new guy is i a breeding trap for obsevation) and they were flaring and squaring up along the glass. it was impressive to say the least, i got a couple of pics after flaring at the mirror!

not great camera work but you get the idea
