Hiya,

we have a 3 black widows and one of them is swimming VERY oddly. Can't seem to keep its balance, looks a bit bloated, and it has what looks like eggs coming out, although I'm not sure. Seems to be gasping for air swimming around, but (s)he is not going up to the surface.

Whats happening!?

I've put her/him into another tank which I decommissioned 2 days ago, the temperature is 22 degrees and is now on its way back up.

I've attached some pictures... but can't get a decent snap. Sorry!

HHELLP!

How is she now.
The eggs could of been rotting inside her.
Can't make the pics out to well do they definately look like eggs.

Bless her if she wasn't laboured breathing I would suggest an epson salt bath.
Could turn the temp up that helps fish pass things, but you would have to increase areation in the tank.

I know when fish have fry inside them they sometimes are pressing against the swim bladder and that can make fish swim oddly.

i have to agree with wilder epson salt bath might be a good idea.

keep us updated

You said it looks like eggs are coming out? How do you mean? If it looks like an egg is literally sticking half way out, I would say that's a good sign! My little girls have that white thing (forgot what it's called, sorry) sticking out when they are going to deliver pretty soon. Mine are bettas though, and my mollies do the same, although not sure if all fish do that...but the white thing literally looks like an egg coming out of it's body.

The swimming weird thing may also be a symptom of a fish full of eggs. My molly use to swim crazy and breathe a little heavy at times when she was trying to push her babies out (but she's a live bearer)...

Could this be beginning stages of dropsy?

How is your fish swimming weird? Is it tail up twitching? Mine did that...

Thanks all, I'll knock the temperature up a few notches, take it up to about 28 I think. See if that helps.

girl4God81: The eggs (if they are eggs) look like a a group of about half a dozen stuck underneath her. The pictures above show that, if you can make them out.. not the best pictures. I don't think its dropsy, i believe thats when the whole fish bloats up, she isn't anywhere near that.

The tail is actually pointing about 45 degrees down, sometimes further - the second picture shows a typical swimming position. Not good. Sometimes he pointing straight up.

Wilder, you wouldn't suggest the salt bath?

Scared of it being to much for her, but if she bad I suppose it worth a try.

Worth a try... don't have any though.

I'll get some tomorrow and give it a go.

Until then, I'll just have to leave her by herself in the other tank. Not the best water, not the cleanest... wasn't expecting to use it.

I do have an air stone in there, and I've pumped it up to the max. Temperature is climbing up at the moment its at 25 degrees, its gone up 4 degrees in the last couple of hours.. set to about 28. See how she is in morning

Wish us luck!

Good luck hope she makes it.

Come down this morning and not looking good :-(

Temperature is 28 degrees, and lying on her side at the bottom.. still breathing. Hopefully asleep

gonna see what happens when I pick her up. Cant see the other side of her to see if the eggs are there.

:-( :-(

Edit: not good... not in a good way. Doesn't seem to be able to move or want to move. Still breathing but her side is red underneath. Here is a picture. Want o put her in our smaller tank water is better quality. I have a hatching chamber, she'll go in there.

i think its her time to go...

she dosnt look good i dont think there is much hope unless things start to change which is unlikely/..... sorry :(

aww, Sven! I'm so sorry, she doesn't look well at all. You posted the picture hours ago, how's she doing now, poor little thing!

I just don't know what else to tell you at this point, I'm sorry! :dunno:

Well, I've come home to find her no longer breathing. :( RIP Little fishy :(

Perhaps I caught it too late, maybe if I saw her sooner something could have been done, but this came on so quickly. I only found her when I came back from work last night - so may have started to show anytime in the previous 20 hours!!

Thanks for all the support, time to put her to rest..
