I'm on the verge of re-starting my 45 US gallon tank. What do you think? Spec is as follows:

Width: 40"
Height: 18"
Depth: 15"

Eheim 2213 external filter
Tronic 200w heater
4 x 39W T5 overtank light giving a total of about 3.4WPG
Pressurized CO2 system from Aquamas

Seachem Flourite substrate
E.I dosing

You can see my plans in the picture (please excuse my poor drawing), the only area im struggling with is the area infront of the rotala at the sides. Can anyone suggest a medium height plant to go there?

Thanks

Sounds like its gonna be a quality tank. Can I suggest you get a better substrate than fluorite, for such a top notch setup dont skrimp on the substrate.

Sam

What substrate would you suggest?

I personally think Flourite is pretty good... I guess you could try the ADA range (bloody expensive though!)

There is certainly nothing wrong with flourite, but would think something like ADA aquasoil, eco-complete, or the tropica substrate would be better. Flourite also clouds the water like you wouldn't believe.

Any of the grass type plants make a nice midground, or you could try Didiplis diandra which has an ever smaller leaf than the Rotala.

Cheers, Dave.

I like the Didiplis diandra idea infront of the rotala. Also perhaps consider a small round leaf plant like Hemianthus micranthemoides. Some tied down riccia would look very nice too.

thanks for the idea, i think for the first couple of months i will cram that are with hygrophila polysperma to try and fight any algae. Then later introduce the Didiplis.
