Here is a picture of my balloon molly, Mindy. She is a proud momma of three molly fry, but they're too shy to have their picture taken. They have their mom's markings, but Mindy doesn't care too much about her babies. She only cares about when she will get fed and how her companions are. Enjoy her best picture I could find!
Mindy is my favorite fish in the tank! She loves the attention I give her and is very happy with the other tankmates. She isn't the only molly in the tank. I have 7 black mollies and they are always swimming together. Mindy appreciates her picture on the website and she says "hi" to everyone.
In the lighter shades of color, you can sometimes tell if a balloon molly is pregnant. In the lower area where the babies are held, the color is a bit darker in that certain area. It's created by the babies compressed inside her belly so it appears as a darker patch. Mindy was pregnant when I got her, but I didn't know she was carring babies until I noticed tiny orange fry swimming around the tank. A few mollies are clearly pregnant with the sight of their babies tiny body figures curled up inside them. I can't tell if a black balloon molly is pregant, but I guess it'll be obvious if they're really fat.
i always liked molly fry because i used to have the best success rate with them.. i had 7 silver fry grow up... they were too big to be eaten by the guppies so they grew up in that tank until a bad disease killed off a lot of my fish... i think im going to look for some pregnant mollies on boxing day and see if i cant raise some more molly fry.. thanks
