Hi,

I have a Golden Severum whom for the past four weeks has had silver tips to his front fins and the odd silver bit on his body, all other fish are fine and he is still very alert and inquisitive and eating well.

I have treated tank with general tonic for fish diseases for about a week, removed carbon and added some salt, but he still looks the same.

It is not slime disease as there are no bubbles and there is only the odd bit.

Any ideas???????

Silver bits can be a sign of good health, are you sure he's ill.
Can you describe in in more detail.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects.

Wow, you learn something new everyday. The only way to describe is it is a silver grey faint almost streak like on his body but goes in different directions, also looking more closing there is a little on his long bottom fin (sorry don't know the name) and he has lost some of this orange colour on it.

He has had on and off a cotton wool like growth around his anal point, but this seems to have cleared up treating with salt, I don't like throwing in meds unless I have to. He is very alert, always come to the front of the tank to see me and otherwise looks perfectly fine and eats very well. He never flicks or rubbs against objects.

I have say this one is stumping me, I have looked at fin rot and slime disease, but the fins are not rotting away and he is definately not bubbly and slimy.

Thanks

You mean his colour on his fin is looking bleached out.
If there no signs of flicking and rubbing dosn't sound like a parasite.
Sounds like he still has a bacteria infection.
Can you load a pic up

Yes your right, bleached out would be a better description, have tried photos but not easy. should I give the general tonic another week do you think????

Can you issolate him for treatment.
Don't bother with that tonic not worth the money.
Myxazin and pimafix.

I have got another tank if need be, can this not be used with the other fish then????

Thanks for your help, you've been great!

The bleached out fin looking at.
Best to treat him on his own, problem with using meds in a tank when the others are ok is that there going to get used to the meds and over time they won't work when you need them too.
Just some dialy water changes on the main tank.
