See below a picture of one of two new plecos we bought last week. The place we bought them from, the guy said that these would only grow max of 6" as we stated specifically we didn't want large common plecos (we have a 240L tank). We cant seem to pinpoint an ID... closest I've got is a Baryancistrus Sp. (L-364) as it has similar markings (white) on the tail and fins, and the spots appear to be roughly the same size. However, apparently these can grow to 11.5" which just isnt what we were looking for. Please have a look and see if you can work out what species it is...(sorry about the quality of the photo - please bear in mind that the skin is darker (almost black) and the spots are a slightly off-white (not brown) )...

He's a common bristlenose, wont go over 6", you're fine with him :)

If you do a web search for ancistrus sp. 3, you might find more info (or indeed search for bristlenose) ;)

Here's Planet Catfish's page for them:

I can see where the similarities lie...but (sorry the picture's duff) he doesn't have any visible bristles on his nose. This may sound silly, but do all bristlenoses have bristles on their nose

No, small bns display none, the bristles come on the male as it reaches maturity (about 3 inch onwards)

Yours will be too young to develop them therefore to young to sex as well

No probs, i hate to be the one to break it to you but its begun..... Soon you will have an all consuming desire to collect every single L number you can get your hands on.....

Tonights homework is to go throught L001-L400 and list all the ones you want already, and then work out how many tanks your gonna need, then where you are going to put them...... When you do that please let me know... cos im still trying to figure it out! :)
