I was just given a very pretty pregnant female fish. The lady that gave her to me said she is a play, but she looks a lot like a swordtail we have at work. I will try to put up a pic I just took of her. It's not the best pic, though. She's white towards the front and a light peach/orange color towards the back. So is she platy or swordtail? If she's a platy what kind is she?
Thanks! fish.gif

Swordtail it's elongated body leads me to believe it's a female swordtail, Platies are more stout and plump IME

She's much longer than any of my other platies...plus I got a nice surprise when I was watching the tank (I just inherited the tank, fish, and all) I saw two little fry swimming! I captured them and put them in with my two platy fry I have. Even the fry are longer than my platy fry. They are smaller in size, which leads me to believe they are younger, but definitely longer.

i agree, i had one just like this, it's a baby machine if you have a male in there so watch out!!

There's a male platy (one female platy, one male platy, and this girl). But, they can breed with platies, right?

Livebearers will breed with anything that is a livebearer. It is a female pinapple swordtail and she looks quite young, also she dosent look pregnant in that pic.

Not true. Not even common livebearers will all interbreed. Mollies and Guppies, yes. Platies and Swordtails, yes. Most Platies picked up in fish stores are Sword crosses already.

Thanks for everyone's help identifying her. With everyone's info I decided she's definitely a swordtail. I have been practicing and finally got a better pic of her.

She's just a little over 2 weeks pregnant. Not very far along. She's with my platies and I don't have any other swordtails atm. Will she be fine with the platies or should I get another sword or two? She seems to be fine with the platies, swims around with them and thinks she's one of them...but if she'd like other sword friends, I'd be glad to get her some :)
