Hi, everyone, im a newbie, too!! i just got back into breeding after many years away from the hobby. I have never been a big fan of either the plastic OR the net breeder tank, simply b/c of the stress that it seemed to have on the pregnant females. BUT, recently, i found something that may be the answer to all of that, an oversized breeding tank, it's almost 7 INCHES big, in all dimensions. Altho i havent recieved it in the mail yet, it looks AWESOME!! It's HUGE!! I can't wait to use it, and THEN i'll let everyone know how it really worked for me. I have not been able to find this tank ANYWHERE but on Ebay, and it does cost about $30. I think that it'll b worth it. Check it out:

Thats great. Uses the same basic design, but is much larger. Indeed a great investment. Way to many times have i seen good fish die in the tiny breeder traps. A word of advise to all breeders, if your not going to buy a larger breeding tank, the pregnant female and fry are best left in the community tank to fend for themselves.

Perfect for common livebearers, but perhaps a little to much space if your wanting to keep all the fry, as it dose give the parents time to still catch some fry.

I too do not like breeding nets or traps and they are far to small.

I breed most by fish in 6 tanks of 12x12x18 and rear the fry with the parents, and have very few problems.
Rare livebearers do eat the fry and some will almost eat them as the drop! So this would be no good for them.
