1st post and first tropical tank so.... HI!!!!!!

I've recently bought some female guppies for my aquarium and i think this one's pregnant. i think this is the gravid spot everyone talks about but could do with some re-assurance. if she is pregnant how long so you think it will be til she drops her fry? (ps i only put her in the breeding trap to take a semi decent photo!)

All help and lots of opinions welcome! thanks

brad

She doesnt look too far along yet if she is pregnant, but that might be because of the angle of the picture

shes pretty fat, here's another angle. the first is from below and behind trying to show the gravid spot if thats what it actually is. has anyone got a pic of one ready to give birth so i could maybe compare. thanks for your help!

She's quite a way off i would say, some fish show gravid spots more that other's, I'll say she got 3 weeks or more.

From about 10 day's to go you may notive eye's showing in the spot.

so how big will she get? she seems a little uncomfortable already bless her! anyone got any pics of a guppy ready to burst? then i know not to keep checking her every 2 minutes!!!

its pretty fascinating to a new tank / fish owner. I'm just concerned (like an expectant father!) lol

I guess that could depend on how many batches she had dropped before, if this is her first one it could be a smaller batch. Just an FYI its a good possibility that she will drop at night, and usually she will be spending alot of time in certain areas, before birth and during she wont eat so that could be a helpful clue as well.
Im more experienced in platy birth then guppies, as ive only had one guppy birth ever so.. im just trying to give some type of advice..

Yep, that's the Gravid Spot! Happy for you...almost all my females are pregnant so I'm going to have a lot of fry. Do you plan on keeping the babies? If so you may want to invest in buying another tank for them so they won't be another fishes meal ticket...lol. Also you may want to buy some java moss for the babies to hide in...they love it! :D
