Hey guys,

I'm getting a PT-1650 Laguna PowerClear Max 1000 uv sterilizer tonight after a long thought out process i decided on this one. Laguna is awesome for manufactuering pond sterilizers so that's why i chose this one. I got a 33 gallon tank (pic below) hooked up with my fluval 302 filter. Anyone have this uv ster and this filter??

i'm just wanting to know how i'm going to hook the two up, and what extra things i need to buy.
(also getting a TRUE flying fox next friday)

Well to answer my own question and to help you all out if you ever go this route here's the answer.

I bought a Laguna PowerClear Max

Model Dimensions Watts Max gal* Max flow* Fittings
8W 3" dia x 19" 8 1,000 500 gph 3/4", 1", 1-1/4

And i got a Fluval 304 filter.

I went to my fish store purchased the uv sterilizer.. brought it home opened up the box as excited as can be.... thinking that i might have the chance my ribbed hosing from my fluval would just fit on it and i could just put some steel hose clamps... after a good hour of trying to stretch out that hose... i gave up.

Sitting watching tv .. thinking in the back of my mind.. i really want to get this done tonight.. i went back to it.. trying to figure out any single way...... then i looked at my fluval filter again and asked myself.. hey wait how do my ribbed hosings connect to the ... fluval connectors.... TA DA... the rubber couplings they provide to you.....

So i take apart my input and output and get the rubber fittings...... Then i attach the rubber fittings... to the in and output of the uv sterilizer... PERFECT MATCH tight as can be....... then i put the rubber tubing into the rubber couplings... hooked everything back up... and TA DA.. works perfect..... so i just gotta put some clamps on the couplings to be extra safe and buy 2 new rubber couplings to put evertyhing back together... :)

Hey,
Sorry you had no reply. Im sure people didnt know either.
Thanks for posting up how to do it though. :good:

Did you ask advice in store when you bought the UV filter?

I might be wrong but my understanding is that Pond UV units are designed differently - they have a lot larger flow path. in an aquarium this means that they dont work as efficiently as the flow rates are lower and the thing you are trying to kill can pass the UV at a safer distance and survive...

Course i asked for advice, but they cannot figure every attachment of every uv sterilizer lol. We looked and thought it might have fit but apparantly not.

Pond uv sterilizers are designed the exact same, they are just better by far. Especially lugana uv sterilizers. The best thing you can do is get a slower flow rate which means the uv hits the water for a longer time>>> thus killing more stuff right! Pond sterilizers are far more superier in my opinion. The uv sterilizers that i bought also has a twist tube inside of it.. so you get the whole uv light instead of just one side of it.
