Oooh that pic is tiny weeny *lol*

Nuggets are notoriously hard to keep, with many dying in the first few weeks/early months of having them. Thing is they dont travel well, and take ages to acclimatise, by which point they can and do starve themselves. I lost mine this afternoon. I hate to say it, but he was hanging out around the filter too - despite having the extra airflow and current they like.

What are you feeding him? Have you seen him eating? Is his tummy hollow or his eyes sunken in?

Make sure you're offering fresh veg (courgette goes down well with most plecs) and some protein (shrimp pellets, bloodworm, squid pellets - something like that) as gold nuggets are omnivores and need that - as well as good pleco wafers. Nuggets like extra air flow (I think, but dont quote me, because they like higher temps and therefore need the extra oxygen), that's why many hang out round the filter or air stone - make sure you have one running in your tank, they'll appreciate it ;)

Keep up with the maintenance, they're quite sensitive to bad water so it's important to keep up with water changes and gravel vacs.

After that it's just a case of sit back and see how it goes. There's only so much we can do, sometimes, like with mine, it just isn't enough. Fingers crossed yours is only there because he likes the current - and isn't poorly at all ;)

Thanks for the comment about my tiny picture!!

Sorry to hear about the passing of your goldie.

In answer to your questions i have seen it feeding when all the lights have gone out if i look from the kitchen i can make him out. He eats courgette, pleco algea wafers, cucumber, im not sure about the bloodworm though.

There is an airstone in the tank he dosent seem to bother with that.

I also have a pepermint pleco which i never see.

This is a picture of my pepprmint plec who has been abit more active the last 24 hours. When i went to get the camera golden plen plec was sat with him

Ive just got my first proper look at my goldie since he went into my tank 6/7 weeks ago he was stuck to the front of my tank.

So in answer to your question LisaLQ his belly is brown looking like its full of food, and his eyes look normal not bulging nor are they drawn in.

So hopefully its like you first said and he just likes the current around the filter.

Keep you informed :good: :good: :good:

i have a golden nugget, he is very active, i have had him 2 months, he hangs around on the filter and comes out for food, which is usually cucumber as he loves it, i drop a few plecowafers in every now and then aswell, but he seems to love the algae and bogwood. i am interested as to why they hang around on the filters, i would be worried about mine but he is really active and eats as soon as i put the food in. hes on his own with 3 pipe fish

Ive just put some cucumber in for my fish and the goldie has been bullying all the others away and wouldnt let them back untill he had finished

Hi all i know its along time since this thread was started but i have just spent the last 3 hours(much to my girlfriends disapproval) watching my little goldie interact with my clown loaches where he went they went and so on it was like they was best friends.
Itried to get a picture but they were moving so fast it was a blur, but superb to watch

Oh i forgot to tell you upgraded the power head in my juwel tank from the 600 to 1000 model to try and inrease the current in the tank.

A special thanks to lisalq you have taught me more about this plec then the fish shop even tried to thanks from me and boris(thats his new name dont know why!!!)
