I have two Platies now and i want to breed fish so what do you recomend?

hi,
i voted more platy as you need 2-3 females per male with any livebearer whether your breeding or not.
mind you who needs males when most females come already pregnant :hyper:

I beleive one of my platies is already gravid, but not to far along but i am looking foward to them :D

Ive never seen endlers before are they hardy and easy to breed?

hi,
all livebearers need no help to breed lol, just water food and time oh and hiding places,
endlers are great little fish they remind me of small guppys, the males are very pretty. i belive they are quite hardy. :)

If you happen to be in the UK, rush out and buy a copy of Practical Fishkeeping. I have an article there all about the less familiar livebearers, of which there are many! From 20 cm pike livebearers and four-eyed fish, through to halfbeaks and porthole livebearers, there are plenty to choose from. Tracking down the "oddball" livebearers can be tricky, but it's well worthwhile.

Of the "big four" livebearers, I have to confess to having a soft spot for mollies, particularly wild-type sailfins. Real sailfin mollies are huge: the biggest females are about 18 cm or so in length, and the males not much smaller, and when those males develop their fins properly, they're a real sight to see! But even common-or-garden black mollies are lovely fish. Whichever you choose, hunt out good stock. There's a lot of mass produced, very ropey fish out there. If in doubt get in touch with a fish club -- they're usually very good at putting you in touch with serious breeders. Livebearer aficionados are, in my experience, lovely people who are only to happy to share their stock.

Cheers,

Neale

I voted other- there are some lovely fish to choose from. Limias, heterandrias, portholes, girardinus- and that's just the poeciliids.

thanks for the votes im heading out to go get eather guppies or one of the other fish since they were the most popular please keep voting for the next time i get some i will see what the most popular is

I'm getting mainly common livebearer's as I've trid to find the rarer ones without any joy. people in my neck of the woods havent even heard of endlers or halfbeaks

Same in my neck of the woods- I ended up ordering my portholes from TriMar and my ticos from the breeder, and after Xmas I thought I'd go on day trip to London to see what Wholesale Tropicals have to offer, I keep drooling over their stocking list.

I would get some guppies because they are small, entertaining, and you get the best of both worlds (Xiphophorus and Poecilia). Also, swordtails would interbreed with your platies, which isn't good.
