Hi,

Today at my LFS they had some Gold Nugget Plecs, i just wanted to know what size they will grow to as adults? Also should they be kept in pairs or are they ok on there own?

Thanks,

Shaun

without seeing them, to be safe assume they will get to 18"

there are 3 different species that are sold as gold nuggets, 2 get big, (18") one gets to about 8".

single fish will be fine ;)

Ok then thanks for your help. I just wanted to know as i would of liked one for my 22g but not now as they get too big. I seen them today at my LFS at £20 each and they were about 6cm long, looked well smart!

Would you recommend any which don't grow that big and would be ok in a 22g?

Thanks!

Have a look at the pinned thread in the plec section - there are loads that will be good ;)
(I have lots of tanks that sort of size with small plecs in :))

14" is the max for GNs - been reading into them as I've just got one myself :)

Another pointless piece of info for you there *lol* considering you're not getting one any more!

I'm useless at guaging tank size by gallonage, but I can recommend a flash plec as a nice looking smaller plec, along with bristlenoses (especially albinos or black eyed golds), clown plecs, and leopard frog plecs. I've got a flash and a couple of bristlenoses, but my other plecs are biggies.

Whiptails are nice too ;) Hubby has a pair in his community tank and they're beautiful.

They do get 10"+ but are extremely slow growing..

Single fish are fine, provide plenty of hiding places and add a block of bloodworm after lights out a few times a week as they arnt strictly algae eaters

They'd need more than just bloodworm. Veggies, shrimp, pleco wafers/tablets, bloodworm, shrimp/mussell/squid pellets, etc. No plec can live on tank algae, and a gold nugget cant live on algae and bloodworm alone. ;)
