I've always wanted to have a collie of my very own but haven't until now for various reasons... I looked around for about 6 months and found her at a breeder NW of St Louis right on the Mississippi River in a very rural area. I drove 5 hours SW to go and meet her, we bonded so I went back to get her about 2 weeks later.
She's a retired show doggie and a real lady..... HOWEVER, she needed to be spayed ASAP so the deed was done today. She's a smooth coat blue merle collie. We had a smooth coat sable when I was growing up. I didn't much care about markings but wanted the wonderfully gentle, sensitive and intelligent collie disposition versus being hung-up on prefering one type of marking over another.
She was 2 yrs old 11/3. The breeder asked that I not change her name Brianna which she is used to.
The kitten is up doing the happy dance on a fishtank showing off for her newest friend.

 She is too gorgeous. What a lovely face. She looks like a real lady too. Congrats, bet you're really pleased to have such a lovely girl at last.

Kitten is too cute too.

:D

I think she has beautiful markings, lovely looking dag (and kitten - ahhh  )

Ooo I loooove Smooth Collies- they have the gorgeous face of the Rough, but a coat I can manage! One day I'll find one languishing in rescue here, they're not very common over here unlike Borders and Roughs. Congratulations!

You might try searching with breeders who want to retire their dogs. I searched with collie rescue groups too. The cost of a dog with them was the same price as with the breeder. The difference there was of course was that with the rescue the spay fee was included in the price.
Smooths aren't as common here either. The dogs with this breeder carry the smooth genetic marker so they never know what they're getting sometimes.
Bri got retired from breeding and showing cuz her ears don't meet the show standard. The breeder wanted to get her out to somebody who would love her rather than just house her and not be able to give her the attention she deserves. I'll include the link Finding an ethical breeder is a search too. I bet you have alot of them over there. These folks are in it for breeding show dogs and don't sell dogs for a living so it's no puppy mill. That's an important consideration too.

Thanks very much - I'm not actually looking for another dog at the moment (one Bullmastiff is enough for now *pmsl*) but should anyone else ask me, I'll pass the info on. :good:

 Wow she is gorgeous def looks like a real lady.... I've never seen/heard of a smooth collie only ones I knew about were border collies and the lassie dog (dont know the breed). I know I'm dense..... Does she need loads of attnetion/interaction like a border collie or is this type quieter?

Love the kitten too..... are they getting on ok? I could never imagine bringing a cat home with Ty there think he'd try and eat it! The cats next door torment him through the fence.

The kitten just LOVES her new collie girl but then she loves everybody in the house including her Chinese Mantid--praying mantis who passed into the next life after giving birth to her egg sac. The kitten is just like a loving little kid who considers everybody here a part of her household.
Smooth collies tend to jump alot and can get kind of rough when playful so have to be taught not to nip. Collies are very intelligent animals so might need more companionship time than other dogs... I'm going to give her a few jobs maybe... Have to think on it a bit. Border Collies do alot with agility training and that kind of thing. People get their dogs in that and then have competitions etc. They're very smart too so getting them in an activity like that does alot for them. Bri brought a bag of stuff I'd put down by the door over to me and laid it at my feet when I was sitting on the couch. "Ok Brianna, I know I was too lazy to put that away so thanks for the reminder" I might devise a little agility jumping type of course for her and other stuff like that to keep her little mind busy.
I'll include a photo of her at the dog park.

Sounds like fun! I've always fancied getting Ty to do agility, I reckon he'd be good at it, but I'd need to find something to keep his attention, plus I'm not much for jogging along either....

Would love to see pics of her doing agility. Shame Bri didnt take the bag to where it was meant to go, imagine that having a dog to put things away for you sheer bliss. I'd be over to nick her then. One of my friends boyfriends mums has a pack of border collies (not sure how many she has) she shows them and does agility etc I think she's mad having so many I know I wouldnt be able to cope with all those dog hairs one is enough for me!

Does she take alot of grooming? Her coat is so stunning.
